Youll be leading our part-time team of park rangers and park monitors responding to public needs and coordinating the behind-the-scenes work that keeps our parks running smoothly. While youll spend some time in the great outdoors the heart of this full-time role lies in your ability to organize communicate and support both the public and your team.

This is a full-time entry-level position that plays a key role in both the field operations and behind-the-scenes coordination that keep our parks safe welcoming and well-run. If youre equal parts team leader problem-solver and public ambassador wed love to meet you!

Education and/or Experience:
Must be at least 21 years of age with a minimum 4 years of experience of extensive public contact and community relations and interpreting and enforcing regulations preferably in a park setting. PC 832 certification desired. Previous experience as a Park Ranger and experience enforcing ordinances and park rules is desired. Associates or Bachelors Degree in parks and recreation natural resource management or a closely related field and bilingual English/Spanish is desired.

Possession of a valid California Class C Drivers License with a good driving record and be insurable by the Citys insurance provider is a condition of employment. Within 6 months of employment completion required trainings and certifications including but not limited to P.C. 832 training Pepper Spray First Responder Certification CPR and First Aid
Subject to Department of Transportation regulations including pre-employment drug testing and subject to unannounced alcohol and drug testing as a condition of continued employment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must possess mobility to work in the field; strength stamina and mobility to operate a motor vehicle and to inspect various sites; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen and make inspections; and hearing and speech to communicate in person before groups and over the telephone or radio. The job involves field inspection work requiring frequent walking at inspection site areas to monitor performance and to identify problems or hazards. Finger dexterity is needed to access enter and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or mobile device and to operate standard office equipment. Positions in this classification bend stoop kneel reach and climb to perform work and inspect work sites. Employees must possess the ability to lift carry push and pull materials and objects weighing up to 100 pounds with assistance or the use of proper equipment.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Employees who work in the field and are exposed to loud noise levels cold and hot temperatures inclement weather conditions hazards vibration confining workspace chemicals mechanical and/or electrical hazards and hazardous physical substances and fumes. Employees may be exposed to blood and body fluids when rendering First Aid and CPR. Employees are required to wear appropriate attire for the recreation activity to which they are assigned. Employees are required to interact with and/or public and private representatives and contractors in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures and are required to resolve conflicts and diffuse situations.
