Summary of Job Duties:
The Pharmacy Specialist will serve as a member of the Specialty Pharmacy Services with a focus on operations and prescription verification. They will provide pharmacy services with a focus on safety efficacy and positive outcomes.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduate of an ACPE-accredited College of Pharmacy with a Doctor of Pharmacy or BS Pharmacy Degree
- PGY1 Residency Training OR 3 years of applicable experience
- Licensed by the Arkansas State Board of Pharmacy as a pharmacist or eligible for licensure
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctorate of Pharmacy
- Board certified in applicable area
- Experience in retail ambulatory care or specialty pharmacy
Additional Information:
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for prescription verification for specialty patients and ensures workflow for dispensing is followed.
- Reviews billing for accuracy including Medicare Part B requirements for all specialty medications.
- Understands the workflow for shipping and can help trouble shoot issues including able to operate the point of sale and shipping software.
- Performs an accurate benefit investigation to determine prescription coverage and can locate it from multiple sources. Possesses advanced knowledge of the adjudication process and can troubleshoot rejected claims and mitigate payer problems.
- Maintains workflow in the operations area ensuring prescriptions are processed in a timely manner and shipments are processed appropriately.
- Performs proper patient assessments that comply with accreditation standards and evidence-based medicine within the time parameters set forth in the patient management program. Cosigns outreach documentation in a timely manner.
- Assesses the appropriateness of therapy for the individual patient with respect to safety comorbidities dosing and side effect management.
- Documents clinical interventions promotes adherence actively monitors patient compliance and recommends appropriate screening prior to medication start date and recommends appropriate monitoring to ensure patient safety.
- Answers clinical communications from patients in a timely manner and facilitates communication between the patient and the clinic.
- Participates in the training of staff students and residents willing to offer to take at least 3 IPPE students per year and participate in residency precepting.
- Participates in a group 24 hours a day 7 days a week 365 days a year on-call rotation where each member of the group takes call for 1 week at a time. Serves as a resource and provides accurate drug information to medical staff.
- Knowledgeable in the prior authorization process and able to submit requests accurately and expediently and able to serve as a resource for off label use prior authorizations and appeals.
