You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailUnder the supervision of the Chief of Staff individuals in this position will implement and oversee all operations related to presenting and communicating the Intergovernmental and Global Affairs departmental goals objectives and policies.
The External Affairs Manager will be responsible for developing and disseminating all approved informative policy communications entrusted to IGA by Commissioners Court ensuring that Harris Countys legislative agenda and platform priorities are messaged accordingly with the Countys overarching goals in all IGA communications.
This position will also collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate accurate clear and comprehensive communications.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Creates informative and cohesive communications on policy
priority initiatives including presentations press releases and articles on key legislation issues potential negative effects of proposed legislation and County funding requests.
Oversees and manages IGAs stakeholder communications.
Manages outreach with County departments State and Federal agencies and external government stakeholders including the State and Congressional delegation.
Prepares detailed comprehensive talking points to brief elected officials on critical legislative issues.
Works closely with internal and external stakeholders to create compelling communications for dissemination.
Education and Experience:
Bachelors Degree in Communications Public Policy or a related field and
Five (5) years of directly related work experience
OR
Associate Degree in Communications Public Policy or a related field and
Seven (7) years of directly related work experience
OR
High School diploma or equivalent and
Nine (9) years of directly related work experience
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of departmental goals objectives policies and procedures.
Knowledge of communication best practices and techniques.
Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
Excellent organization prioritization and time-management skills.
Ability to deliver clear concise messaging on various topics.
Ability to draft talking points presentations and various departmental communications.
Ability to collaborate with pertinent stakeholders fostering strong relationships.
Ability to understand and communicate departmental initiatives.

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:
Regular Full-time
Monday Friday 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.
Occasional weekends holidays and overtime may be required based on the specific needs and demands of the department.

Depends on Qualifications
Based on 26 Pay Periods
