Job Description

Description / Position Overview

About the Job:The purpose of this position is to provide oversight and supervision over the Community Service Representatives (CSR) and Community Service Officers (CSO) assigned to a division or the Police Operations Center (POC). The CSR and CSO positions complete a wide variety ofroutine non-sworn law enforcement dutiesto support and assist police officers and the community. The Supervisor will perform these same duties as time allows or as needed. Supervisors will monitor employees work product policy adherence and productivity. The Supervisor will coordinate with the other division supervisors for consistency and coverage across the city.

This position does not carry a weapon or have arrest authority.

You must be a current City employee who has been in your current position for at least one year to be considered for this position.

As a Community Service Officer Supervisor you will:

  • Provides daily supervision of all assigned personnel which includes preparing and maintaining the schedule for the assigned division employees approving and managing leave time approving and monitoring timesheets.
  • Determine division unit staffing equipment materials and supplies needed.
  • Conduct random inspections of field/front desk work monitoring customer service and compliance with policy and procedures. Address safety concerns.
  • Daily review of police reports completed by unit personnel.
  • Maintain reference materials stay informed of basic state statutes municipal ordinances and department policies and procedures; Keeps assigned personnel informed of changes and ensure adherence.
  • Help establish employee goals and objectives and complete employee performance evaluations.
  • Investigate employee complaints. Assist with the discipline or termination process if necessary.
  • Monitor create and submit awards through chain of command.
  • Liaison between assigned personnel and chain of command for unit communication unit directives improvements to work environment employee wellbeing and safety.
  • Assist with hiring interviewing and selection process of unit personnel.
  • Plan coordinate teach and update training materials for new employee CSO academies and CSR classroom training.
  • Supervise new employee division field training provide updates address concerns and coordinate remedial training.
  • Assist with unit in-service training ensuring attendance and participation.
  • Assist with projects policy updates and maintaining unit statistics with spreadsheets.
  • Ensure assigned employees proactively assist in the reduction of property crime and improve traffic safety. Collaborate with other City departments and police units on community problem solving efforts.
  • Be a liaison to the community by educating the public on crime prevention efforts and techniques.
  • Respond to calls for service conduct investigations issue tickets and/or take reports on authorized calls for service.
  • Testify in court as necessary.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent communication skills demonstrating native-level proficiency in the English language
  • Excellent written skills using proper spelling punctuation and grammar
  • Ability to respond to people and situations using a high degree of tact
  • Ability to handle stressful contacts and negative interactions
  • Ability to use analytical judgment and decision-making appropriate to work environment
  • Ability to work independently and with a team supporting the unit and departments mission
  • Adaptable to current and new technology
  • Ability to utilize available resources to problem-solve/propose action plans to improve customer service and responsiveness.
  • Ability to delegate evaluate ensure accountability and compliance

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in a related area of study.
    • Preferred major or coursework in business administration criminal justice or related field
  • Three years of full-time professional experience in a related field.
    • Preferred relevant experience in a law enforcement or criminal justice setting
  • Have or obtain upon hire a valid non-probationary Colorado drivers license not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges.
Education and Experience Equivalency:One year of relevant work experience may be substituted for one year of required education (OR) one year of relevant academic coursework beyond the minimum requirement may be substituted for one year of required professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Law Enforcement experience or Community Service Officer experience.

Lead worker or supervisory experience

Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions: Exerting up to 20 lbs. occasionally 10 lbs. frequently or negligible amounts constantly OR requires walking or standing to a significant degree. This position requires fieldwork in potentially adverse weather conditions or harsh environment getting in and out of a vehicle frequently and occasionally retrieving material from roadways.
