Job Description

This role is part of the Edgewood Quality team. As a Supplier Quality Engineer you are responsible for product quality on assigned programs to ensure that customer contract requirements are fulfilled. You will routinely liaise with internal Engineering Sales Supply Chain and Operations departments.

  • Conduct both QMS system and process audits to assess Suppliers against Smiths Detection requirements
  • Work with Quality staff to establish quality requirements for the external supply chain.
  • Provide Quality Assurance and technical guidance to Suppliers as required.
  • Drive measurable improvement throughout the supply base
  • Help suppliers resolve problems with mechanical electrical and materials issues
  • Conduct supplier performance analysis and management utilizing supplier non-conformance data with the expectation of achieving and maintaining GREEN level status

Essential functionsessential functions including how an individual is to perform them and the frequency with which the tasks are performed; the tasks must be part of the job function and truly necessary or required to perform the job.

Job duties to include but are not limited to;

  • Communication of Supplier issues to site Quality Production and Purchasing.
  • Review and management of Supplier changes to assess product quality impact.
  • Liaising with Quality Engineers Manufacturing Engineers Design Engineers and other functional technical groups within Smiths.
  • Support Supplier sourcing and selection
  • Travel to suppliers to assess Quality Systems work with suppliers to identify defect root causes
  • Facilitate Corrective and Preventive Actions of Supplier Quality related issues.
  • Issue and manage Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs) when required
  • Review and approval of supplier First Article Inspections (FAIs)
  • Assess Supplier and company product specifications and customer requirements
  • Monitor supplied product performance through gathering relevant data and producing statistical reports in order to identify supplier performance improvement opportunities
  • Approximately 50% travel including occasional international travel
  • Other duties may be assigned.

 

 


Qualifications :

Education/training:

  • Bachelors degree in an engineering field required. Significant experience considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Formal ASQ CQE and/or CQA certification preferred
  • Formal Green Belt and/or other Problem Solving certification preferred

Experience:

  • 3-5 years minimum experience in a quality assurance role
  • Direct experience supporting suppliers preferred
  • Demonstrable experience with processes to mature parts and resolve technical problems related to parts quality from suppliers.
  • Experience with Supplier Quality planning
  • Experience with First Article Inspection and reporting

Knowledge/skills:

  • Familiarity with and ability to execute in an ISO9001 Quality environment/system
  • Practical knowledge and experience in multiple commodities (Electrical Mechanical Electronic etc.) or a specialist in one commodity.
  • Analytical techniques including statistical process control Process capability preferred.
  • Knowledge of advanced problem-solving techniques (e.g 6-sigma DoE Global 8D Shainin) preferred.
  • Understanding of Quality planning tools (e.g APQP SAP) preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Able to think creatively logically and independently to solve problems encountered in Supply Chain Manufacturing Engineering Processing etc.
  • Can motivate and influence others towards change through the use of data-driven solutions
  • Self-starter with the ability to work with minimal day to day supervision

Background:

This position may require Sensitive Security Information (SSI) access and vetting via the TSA. If required applicant must successfully pass a federal background investigation. This position may require a U.S. Personal Security Clearance.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • The individuals primary workplace is located in the Edgewood production facility there are no exposures to unusual elements.
  • The individual is chartered to work closely with unionized production associates which necessitates being mindful of the rules of the Collective Bargaining Agreement including respecting Union work.
  • This position requires access to ITAR EAR and Department of State or Department of Commerce controlled information and routine access to a cleared facility. Applicant must be a U.S. Person (citizen green card holder or other permanent resident or protected resident).

The compensation for this position ranges from $70581- $158809.2/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location skills job-related knowledge and experience. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions.
