Job Description

Position Summary
This position is a working supervisory position that reports to the Environmental Services Supervisor. The Facility Attendant Team Leader is responsible for the supervision of all individual team custodial/housekeeping personnel assigned to the Residence Halls. Ensures that safety practices are followed.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES Sweep mop and scrub floors stairs (inside and outside buildings) and other surfaces; Clean and dust furniture exhibit cases pictures door trims and chalkboards; Wash windowsills glass in corridors and glass in telephone booths; Wash glass and trim in entrance doors; Clean and service lavatories toilet rooms and restrooms; Provide exemplary customer service to both internal and external customers; Replace liners in wastebaskets and trash containers; Report items that need repair (doors door checks furniture lights and faucets); Collect and place in container or plastic bags trash and debris place trash in collection area for removal by sanitation trucks; Wash and/or clean interior wall spaces by hand using ladders as required; Wash and replace venetian blinds and wash ceiling fixtures using ladders as required; Vacuum rugs in office and public areas. Supervisory Duties: Lead and work with cleaning staff in housekeeping services; Communicate daily with administrative staff (host of the event) on special events and functions that may require special furnishing arrangements; Responsible for inspecting equipment to determine needs for repairs new parts overhaul replacement and for cleanliness before and after use; Assist in training new employees on cleaning materials and equipment technique by demonstrating and explaining efficient economical and safe methods; Supervise and direct day to day housekeeping services to ensure all tasks are performed according to established priorities; Observe and report any and all defects deterioration and wear and tear on the facilities using the work order system; Inspect all dormitories and campus houses on a routine basis to assure that deficiencies are corrected; Counsel and advise staff members on performance issues. Prepare coaching forms. Prepare performance planning and evaluation forms and conduct evaluation discussions; Monitor and supervise the preparation and cleaning of dormitories for non-College functions during summer months such as: orientation sessions conventions and seminars; Obtain formal feedback from the Resident Directors and Resident Assistants on the overall cleanliness of the dormitories and campus houses as well address special needs; Maintain inventory control of housekeeping supplies such as linen and cleaning materials. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position has supervisory responsibilities for one or more positions in the department. This does not include work study students.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to: sit stand and walk for prolonged periods use hands to handle cleaning supplies and equipment reach with hands and arms talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to: stoop or climb or crawl and smell. The employee is occasionally required to: lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color vision and ability to adjust focus.

Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED is required. The incumbent must interact in a diverse community and be able to adapt to changing situations. Good oral and written communication skills are required with the ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Must have good proofreading skills and be detail oriented. Ability to write correspondence such as letters and internal email communications is a necessity. Ability to speak effectively when interacting with the Spelman community and the public is required. Must be able to utilize e-mail systems such as Microsoft Outlook. Ability to create such things as general correspondence evaluations forms equipment status reports coaching forms and cleaning supply requests are essential. Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test.

Preferred Qualifications
A minimum of four years of supervisory experience is preferred. Basic computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel) are preferred.
