DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
The Foster Care Program at LFSRM includes the traditional Foster Care Program and the Unaccompanied Refugee Minor (URM) Program. With teams all throughout Colorado our staff work diligently with our families to support them through the foster process understanding that it is a continuous and ongoing process far beyond placement.
JOB SUMMARY & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Case Worker as an agent of the County provides unaccompanied refugee minors who are placed in foster care with casework services that lead to permanency for the young person.
REQUIRED COMPETANCIES
Occupational Competencies
- Meet standards of practice: Familiarity with social work practice human development child welfare system and family systems including appropriate local state and federal regulatory rules.
- Apply case management: Familiarity with assessment care planning facilitation coordination and advocating for supports on behalf of and in collaboration with an individual.
- Apply crisis intervention: Experience with crisis management problem solving and mediation best practices.
- Legal requirements: Familiarity with the legal system as it applies to child welfare.
- Deliver services within diverse cultural communities: Skills and sensitivity in working with youth and families from a variety of cultural and ethnic backgrounds with a variety of challenges.
- Communicate professionally with colleagues in other fields: Ability to communicate professionally and cooperate with members of the other professions involved with the youth.

- Active Listening: Giving full attention to what other people are saying taking time to understand the points being made asking questions as appropriate and not interrupting at inappropriate times.

EXAMPLE ACTIVITIES
- Manages all assigned cases and maintains face-to-face contact with the youth in placement per state regulation and monitors maintains and conducts ongoing assessment of the needs of the youth and families on caseload.
- Facilitates coordination and monitoring of therapeutic health educational cross-cultural and other pertinent resources for youth and families on caseload.
- Maintains all necessary documentation to meet timeliness and accuracy standards.
- Participates in court hearings placement review meetings administrative reviews and school meetings.
TRANSPORTATION
Must maintain a valid drivers license and carry personal auto liability insurance at the level of $100000/300000/100000.
- Frequent local regional travel. May be required to transport clients in personal vehicle.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS
- Bachelors degree in the Social Work or behavioral sciences. One (1) year relevant experience acquired after the degree required.
- Certification as a Social Caseworker or ability to complete State prescribed pre-services training for new social caseworkers or recertification upon hire.
