Job Description

Are you the go-to person for tech support among your friends and family Do you enjoy helping others while growing your own technical skills If so you might be the perfect fit for the Technology Center Assistant position at the Salina Public Library.



As a member of our Technology Department youll provide high-quality friendly and professional support to both staff and patrons. Your primary responsibilities will include assisting patrons with library technology and personal devices maintaining equipment and promoting library services.



This position is approximately 60% office-based work and 40% hands-on technology support for patrons and staff. To be a part of our library team a positive attitude flexibility and willingness to work well with everyone is required.


Reports to: Head of Technology

Hours / Schedule: Part-time - 20 hours / week Maximum of 999 hours per year.

Wednesday 2 - 6 p.m.

Thursday & Friday 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.

Flexibility to work additional hours during the training period would be beneficial.


This is a permanent position. Above is an anticipated schedule. Additional days/times as needed for coverage. Schedules are adjusted as needed for the Library. Hours scheduled are based upon service levels.


Starting Pay: $16.31 / hour

Minimum Education: High school diploma or equivalent

Work Experience:

  • Entry-level position
  • Customer Service Experience (Required): Prior experience in a customer-facing role with strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Familiarity with Google Drive (Preferred): Comfortable navigating and using Google Drive applications such as Docs Sheets and Calendar for everyday tasks
  • Basic Technology Support (Preferred): Capable of guiding patrons through personal device issues

Supervisory Experience:Not required


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

General and Technology-Focused Public Service

  • Support the librarys mission and deliver excellent service to patrons and coworkers.
  • Demonstrate confidence and adaptability with technology. Navigate a wide range of software programs and devices and show a willingness to continually expand your knowledge to support both patrons and staff effectively.
  • Adapt quickly to new and evolving technologies. Stay current with emerging tools and systems and clearly communicate relevant information to staff and patrons in a supportive and accessible manner.
  • Communicate clearly accurately and promptly with diverse patrons and staff.
  • Exhibit a passion for teaching and empowering others. Foster digital literacy and confidence by delivering technology support and instruction with patience enthusiasm and clarity.
  • Contribute to the success of the Technology Department by providing one-on-one tech assistance assisting in the maintenance of library technology and furthering community engagement.
  • Stay informed about library programs and services.
  • Enforce policies and follow procedures including in high-stress or challenging situations.
  • Assist with tracking and updating patron records and usage data ensuring accuracy in Google Sheets and related systems.


Technology Desk Operations

  • Provide timely and accurate assistance to staff when contacted through phone or ticket system.
  • Manage and document technology support tickets by updating statuses tracking progress and maintaining detailed records for accountability and improvement.
  • Support the maintenance and functionality of library technology including PCs gaming consoles printers hotspots and Rokus.
  • Use and update the inventory tracking system to ensure accurate records of technology assets and supplies.
  • Maintain and organize clear up-to-date documentation of the Technology Help Desk including policies and procedures; ensure consistent communication with all relevant staff.
  • Oversee day-to-day Technology Help Desk tasks and projects including PC and gaming system maintenance statistical tracking and data cleanup efforts.
  • Manage the circulation and tracking of educator kits and internal staff equipment ensuring availability and proper maintenance.
  • Serve as the primary coordinator for Summer Learning Packets including preparation distribution and follow-up as needed.

  • Bring a detail-oriented and analytical approach to your work maintain clear and thorough records and contribute to the improvement of processes and outcomes through documentation.
  • Be reliable: arrive on time work scheduled hours and take appropriate breaks.

  • Attend and participate in staff and team meetings.
  • Foster a positive workplace culture by contributing to shared goals communicating respectfully and promoting teamwork.
  • Maintain a collaborative mindset and remain open to feedback and ideas from colleagues at all levels of the organization.
  • Help keep library spaces clean and organized.
  • Act professionally and follow all library policies including dress code.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid Drivers License.
  • Pre-employment drug screen. (post-employment drug screen may also take place)
  • Pre-employment background check.
  • Basic keyboarding skills.
  • The ability to work with a variety of technology equipment and applications including but not limited to word documents spreadsheets internet browsers email and Google Drive.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT

Light to moderate physical work.

  • Lifting carrying and pushing up to 40 pounds with or without assistance.
  • Frequent lifting carrying standing walking bending climbing stairs twisting reaching pulling and pushing.
  • Speech and hearing abilities to maintain communication with patrons and co-workers.
  • Vision to read and interpret reports written documents and electronic communications.
  • Work is primarily indoors with some outdoor work for book drop pickups and other Library event assistance.
