Job Description

Introduction

Anglicare WA is seeking a passionate and dedicated Counsellor for our Young Hearts Gosnells program. Located in the heart of Gosnells this role falls under our esteemed Gosnells Services department dedicated to providing vital support to the local community. TheYoung Heartsservice provides professional confidential counselling group support and community engagement to children and their non-violent primary care giver who have experienced or are experiencing family and domestic theChild Counselloryou will provide professional counselling service including assessments counselling and group work for children who have been exposed to or are victims of family and domestic violence as well as their nonviolent primary care giver.

This role is a part time (15 hours a week on Thursdays and Fridays - 8.30am - 4.30pm) including one day outreach fixed until 30 June 2026

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver counselling services to young people in a compassionate and empathetic manner.
  • Assess the needs of each individual and develop tailored support plans.
  • Facilitate group therapy sessions to address common challenges faced by young people.
  • Collaborate with other professionals to ensure comprehensive care for clients.
  • Conduct risk assessments and provide crisis intervention as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records of client interactions and progress.

Main Tasks:

  • Provide one-on-one counselling sessions to address a range of issues such as mental health family dynamics and personal development.
  • Empower young individuals to build resilience and develop coping strategies for lifes challenges.
  • Foster a safe and supportive environment for open discussions during group therapy sessions.
  • Participate in regular team meetings and contribute insights for continuous improvement of services.

Skills And Experiences

What you will bring

To be successful in this role you will have the following skills and experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Counselling Social Work Psychology or related discipline
  • Counselling experience in working with childrenin a therapeutic setting utilising person centred strength based and trauma informed approaches
  • Group work experience with children and/or adults
  • Skills in engaging clients from Aboriginal and other diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Exceptional interpersonal and rapport building skills
  • The successful candidate must possess a current National Police Clearance valid within one year a WA Working with Children Check and hold a WA Drivers Licence.
