A kinematics engineer focuses on the study and analysis of motion without considering the forces causing that motion. They apply mathematical models and simulations to describe and optimize movement often in fields like robotics biomechanics and mechanical engineering. Their work involves design analysis and potentially simulation of systems where motion is critical ensuring efficient and accurate movement in various applications.
Key Responsibilities:
System Design and Optimization: Designing and optimizing mechanical systems robots or other devices to achieve desired motion characteristics.
Simulation and Analysis: Performing simulations to predict and analyze the behavior of moving parts including kinematic stress thermal and vibration assessments.
Integration and Collaboration: Working with other engineers and teams to integrate motion-related aspects into larger systems.
Testing and Validation: Conducting tests to validate the performance of kinematic systems and ensure they meet design specifications.
Documentation and Communication: Creating technical documentation including drawings specifications and reports and effectively communicating design choices and challenges.
Skills and Qualifications:
Strong foundation in mechanical engineering principles: Understanding statics dynamics kinematics and mechanics of materials.
Proficiency in relevant software: CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks AutoCAD NX) simulation tools (e.g. ANSYS ADAMS) and programming languages (e.g. Python MATLAB).
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills: Ability to analyze complex motion problems identify potential issues and develop innovative solutions.
Strong communication and teamwork skills: Effectively collaborating with cross-functional teams and clearly communicating technical information to stakeholders.
Attention to detail: Ensuring accuracy in design analysis and documentation.
Experience with relevant standards and regulations: Understanding industry-specific standards for safety performance and documentation
10-15 years of experience in Kinematic Engineering/Design/Mechanical Design Engineering
Ability to calculate joint angles and positions to achieve desired movements an understanding of kinematic equations their applications and how to apply to automotive interiors.
