Description

Demco is currently seeking an individual for the role of Group Lead for our Weld Department. The successful applicant will direct and coordinate the activities of the Line 1 Grain and Gondola Semi Trailer line. Qualified candidates should have experience in leadership or supervision along with welding experience. Demco provides a competitive compensation & benefits package that takes into account your skills and expertise.


Hours are Monday - Thursday 6am-4:30pm and Fridays based on production.


Primary Duties:

  • Practice perform and promote Safety by using proper (PPE) Personal Protective Equipment and create a safe working environment for all.
  • Promote employees to submit near misses. Correct or fix any safety hazards immediately or seek assistance to help you correct them.
  • Communicate with other Group Leads and employees in your area to relay important information.
  • Have a general understanding of all products and be present for new product introduction.
  • Perform Quality checks on all products welded in your area verify all QA paperwork has been completed.
  • Help people check their work and ensure quality.
  • Verify product being produced meets and conforms to all options and revisions listed on the Epicor Job.
  • Have a general understanding of Epicor and how it functions in your area.
  • Promote and Submit Red Tags for items that do not Fit or Function properly and for any re-work that occurs within your areas.
  • Utilize (CI) Continuous Improvement form to keep improving processes and the quality of our products.
  • Perform and promote 6S within and around your department to keep things Neat Clean and Organized.
  • Provide suggestions and solutions to prevent Re-work from re-occurring within your department.
  • Teach train and coach your coworkers proper skills and techniques to accomplish daily production. Utilize (TWI) Training Within Industry methods.
  • Ensure all coworkers can operate forklifts safely. If individuals need trained get them to a certified trainer.
  • Observe your people throughout the day to make sure all areas are line balanced.
  • Minimize waste and down time keep people productive by keeping work in front of them.
  • Keep all machinery within the department clean maintained and working properly to accomplish daily production goals.
  • Have knowledge and a general understanding of how to read weld prints and diagrams/schematics.
  • Able to trouble shoot air electrical issues as they arise.
  • Promote a culture of problem solving.
  • Order supplies from the warehouse through Epicor process as needed to meet weekly production goals.
  • Review with Purchasing any items that are needed to complete weekly production.
  • Review Kanban items.
  • Ensure that all Weld department procedures processes and Work Instructions are followed and performed. Perform random Layered Process Audits (LPAs) to verify processes are working.
  • Assist Team Lead by providing details for employee reviews.
  • Assist Team Lead with employee skills matrix.
  • Fill in for your Team Lead if they are absent or on vacation.
  • Fill in as a relief Welder when someone is sick on vacation or as needed.
Requirements

Qualifications / Experience:

  • Leadership or supervisory experience preferred
  • Welding experience required (must pass a weld test)
  • Manufacturing experience preferred
  • Computer experience including Outlook Excel and Word preferred
  • Ability to bend and crawl under trailers
  • Able to read and use measuring tools accurately
  • Be safety minded
  • Attention to detail and a high standard of quality
  • Must comply to ISO 9001 required policies
  • Must be a team player who can work effectively in a team environment
  • Good interpersonal verbal communication and active listening skills
  • Able to lift 50 pounds occasionally and push/pull 100 pounds occasionally
