Job Title: Consultant Psychiatrist
Location: Auckland New Zealand
Salary: NZD 185380 NZD 267980 per year
Relocation Support: NZD 15000

The Consultant Psychiatrist will provide clinical leadership within a designated mental health service ensuring the delivery of safe evidence-based and patient-centered care. This role involves working collaboratively with other healthcare professionals including General Practitioners and engaging with service users and their families to manage mental health and emotional needs. The position focuses on comprehensive psychiatric assessments diagnostic formulations treatment planning and the application of various therapies including psychotherapy medication management and social interventions.
The successful candidate will work closely with the multi-disciplinary team fostering a holistic approach that also addresses physical health concerns recognizing the high prevalence of health issues among mental health and addiction service users. Cultural sensitivity and engagement with whnau/family are central to the role ensuring comprehensive care tailored to the needs of each individual.
Lead and provide high-quality clinical assessment and treatment services within a multidisciplinary team ensuring services are culturally appropriate and compliant with professional standards.
Undertake psychiatric assessments formulate diagnoses and develop treatment plans addressing both physical and mental health.
Provide expert advice and liaise with service users GPs other healthcare professionals and families to ensure optimal treatment outcomes.
Actively involve service users and their families in the care process ensuring that cultural and social factors are respected and incorporated into care plans.
Work within relevant legal frameworks including the Mental Health Act and Privacy Act ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.
Provide medical reports to the courts police and other authorities as required.
Collaborate with Team Managers and other psychiatrists to enhance service delivery and resolve any issues impacting quality clinical practice.
Participate in leadership meetings and contribute to the planning and development of Mental Health and Addictions services.
Lead and supervise other health professionals including Registrars to enhance their clinical skills and foster a learning environment.
Support service integration working in partnership with other health and social services to enhance service delivery.
Provide clinical supervision and mentorship to colleagues ensuring they maintain high standards of care and professional development.
Participate in case reviews offering leadership in complex clinical legal or social matters.
Supervise and support the training of medical trainees and other clinical staff.
Attend relevant workshops and professional development activities to stay current with psychiatric practices and maintain accreditation.
Support the Clinical Head in managing staff performance offering feedback and facilitating professional development opportunities.
Participate in audit activities and clinical reviews to improve service quality and clinical practice.
Engage in ongoing professional development through activities such as peer review CME meetings and research and ensure credentialing by the relevant health authorities.
Uphold the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi ensuring equity active protection and partnership in all aspects of service delivery.
Commit to achieving equitable health outcomes for Mori and other underserved communities supporting diversity and inclusion within the healthcare system.
Medical degree with specialist psychiatric training and fellowship with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) or equivalent.
Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand as a Consultant Psychiatrist.
Significant experience in a leadership or consultant psychiatric role within mental health services.
In-depth knowledge of mental health legislation clinical governance and patient rights.
Proven ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders including community organizations.
Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and supervision.
The role is located in Auckland New Zealand with a competitive salary range of NZD 185380 NZD 267980 per year.
Relocation support of NZD 15000 is offered as well as full immigration support to help you settle in New Zealand.
The position requires participation in after-hours on-call rosters.
