Charles R. Drew University is located in the Watts-Willowbrook area of south Los Angeles and was founded in 1966 in the wake of the Watts uprising. CDU was founded to address inadequate medical care in the region and to provide equitable medical education opportunities for under-represented students.
CDU offers the only historically black Doctor of Medicine program west of the Mississippi and is strongly invested in the local and regional community. The university leads multiple partnerships and programs to provide equitable healthcare resources in a variety of South Los Angeles neighborhoods.
TITLE: Coordinator Clinical Experience

Job Summary:
Under the direction of the GCP Program Director the CCE will assist in all aspects of the Genetic Counseling Programs administrative duties. The CCEs principle functions will be to support clinical supervisors provide clinical genetic counseling and manage student clinical rotations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The CCE will be responsible for staffing genetics clinics at our affiliated sites (i.e./ Martin Luther King Jr. Ambulatory Care Center) and for overseeing student activities in clinical rotations.
Program:
- Support clinical supervisors when interacting with CDUs online clinical rotation platform (Exxat) including uploading comments/evaluations not entered in the platform.
- Receive and review student documents for verification and accuracy to ready them for clinical rotations.
- Receive and review student evaluations from clinical rotations
- Assist in the identification recruitment and touring of new clinical/practicum agency student placement sites under the direction of the GC Program Director.
- Attend required meetings at clinical affiliation agencies in collaboration with the GC Program Director and/or Assistant Program Director as needed as well as various other internal CDU stakeholder meetings as assigned and as appropriate
- Assist in the evaluation of clinical sites with the Program Director and/or Assistant Program Director
Clinical services:
- Provide clinical genetic counseling to patients at CDU-affiliated institutions; until certified and licensed care will be provided under the supervision of a certified licensed GC (Program Director or similar)
- Coordination of clinical activities: prepare all cases seen at CDU-affiliated institutions whether the GC of record or not
- Follow up as needed on patients seen at CDU-affiliated institutions including chart documentation results disclosure and all other clinical genetic counseling-related activities.
- When certified and licensed provide supervision to CDU and other GC students at CDU-affiliated institutions.
- Other clinical responsibilities as needed for the success of the clinical program provided by the GCP at affiliated institutions
Secondary Responsibilities:
Academic:
- Collaborate with students in the GC Program as well as Student Services office to provide services to optimize the ability of GC students to succeed in the program e.g. tutorials resource sharing academic advising and study strategies.
- In conjunction with the Genetic Counseling Administrator manage student-related events: applicant interviews orientation and information sessions etc.
- Assist and participate in CDU special events such as Oath and Honors Commencement ceremony and recruitment events for the GC Program
Program:
- Provide educational outreach to the CDU community at large to elicit interest in the GC profession and assist GC students in developing community outreach programs
- Attend selected community professional meetings and the recruitment job fair as needed.
This is an in-person position with expected clinical presence weekly.

Qualifications/Requirements:
EDUCATION:
- Masters degree in Genetic Counseling; ABGC certification will be required.
- New graduates welcome.
EXPERIENCE:
- Previous experience with student services or admissions
- Familiarity with GC school programs as a student or as an employee
- Recent experience with genetic counseling clinical rotations.
- At least two years of experience working within the genetic field preferred.
- Must possess a valid drivers license and show proof of insurance.
- Two years of administrative clerical experience
KNOWLEDGE/ABILITY/SKILLS:
- A strong understanding of medical terms.
- Knowledge of teaching and clinical practice in the genetic counseling field.
- Knowledge of current developments trends and complexities within genetic counseling and the healthcare industry.
- Ability to recruit for and market an educational program.
