Job Description

Barrington Public Schools TITLE: Elementary Classroom Teacher -Kindergarten (one year only)QUALIFICATIONS: 1 RI Teaching Certification 2 Undergraduate Degree Education Masters Degree Preferred 3 Proficiency Certificate in Literacy (Right to Read) or understands they must earn one upon hire 4 Maintain Professional Development Credits as Required by Contract and Certification To support Barringtons commitment to diversity and to foster inclusion respect and equity in education the successful candidate will be selected from a diverse pool of diverse candidates. REPORTS TO: Principal JOB GOAL: To create a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; To establish effective rapport with students; To motivate students to develop skills attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for upper elementary grade education in accordance with each students ability; To create a learning environment that encourages appropriate standards of behavior positive social interaction active engagement in learning and self-motivation; To foster collaborative relationships with colleagues and families to support students learning; To reflect on their practice and assume responsibility for their professional development by actively seeking opportunities to learn and grow as a professional. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 1 Teaches reading language arts social studies math and science in a classroom using the course of study adopted by BPS and other appropriate learning activities. 2 Integrates Deep Learning competencies into instruction. 3 Follows the visible learning processes known as LEAPP. 4 Implements the RULER social emotional learning program. 5 Demonstrates a deep understanding of state and federal standards and learning progressions. 6 Shows capacity in the implementation of interdisciplinary lessons. 7 Ensures that all student plans are followed in accordance with laws regulations and policies. 8 Collaborates with specialists to ensure students are provided with the services they need within the classroom environment. 9 Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district. 10 Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to each students needs according to Universal Design for Learning and individual student data. 11 Translates lesson plans into learning experiences to best use the available instruction time. 12 Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom. 13 Engages with mentoring and coaching as provided by the district and school. 14 Evaluates students academic and social growth keeps appropriate records and prepares progress 04/2023 reports and tier II plans. 15 Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students progress. 16 Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health attitude and learning problems. 17 Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays bulletin boards and interest centers. 18 Maintains professional competence through professional development activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities. 19 Selects and requisitions books and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records. 20 Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day. 21 Administers standardized tests in accordance with district testing program. 22 Participates in curriculum development programs as required. 23 Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities. 24 Implements an inclusive culturally relevant responsive and sustaining classroom instructional program and environment. 25 Fulfills any other responsibility as defined in the Teachers labor agreement or as assigned by the principal. 26 Use effective communication skills with students colleagues families and related agencies (spoken written and non-verbal); Completes all requested forms reports and data collections in an accurate and timely manner; Performs the functions of the position in accordance with the: RI Professional Teaching Standards; RI Professional Code of Conduct; and all laws regulations school district policies directives the mission of the district school-based plans and administrative priorities / requests. 27 Follows the RI Professional Code of Teacher Standards. 28 Performs other duties as may be assigned and/or necessary to perform the functions of the position. WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is also required to move from location to location lift items weighing up to 30 pounds and engage in restraints following CPI. Communication requirements include the ability to hear and respond to voice and other sounds in small and large settings with background noise and to present information orally and in writing.
