Job Description

NOTE: THIS POSITION IS OPEN TO CURRENT DURANGO SCHOOL DISTRICT EMPLOYEES who will be employed in the 2025-2026 school year as a school-based counselor and have been employed in a school-based counselor role with Durango School District since at least September 1 2024.

The Student Support Services Departmentis accepting applications for a School-based Counselorto lead Durango School Districts counseling team.

Position Title: Counselor Lead Professional Learning and Program Collaboration

Compensation: 1.05 index of salary. The individiual who is employed in this role will receive a stipend amount that is equivalent to 5% of their 181 day 2025-2026 1.0 FTE salary rate.

Overview:
The Counselor Lead serves as a peer leader for the school districts counseling team. This stipend position focuses on professional collaboration program alignment and leadership in key district initiatives. The Counselor Lead will facilitate the Counselor Professional Learning Community (PLC) and take an active role in planning organizing and leading meetings and efforts aligned with the districts Student Wellness MTSS Career Connected Learning and the ASCA (American School Counselor Association) model.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate regular Counselor PLC meetings fostering collaboration consistency and shared professional growth across school sites.

  • Plan and lead counseling team meetings throughout the school year including agendas communication and follow-up.

  • Serve as a liaison between district leadership and school-based counselors providing input and feedback related to student wellness career readiness and comprehensive counseling services.

  • Support alignment of counseling practices with district initiatives including:

    • Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) for Student Wellness

    • Career Connected Learning

    • Implementation of the ASCA National Model

  • Coordinate and share resources professional learning opportunities and tools to support the ongoing development of the counseling team.

  • Collaborate with other instructional and support leaders to ensure counseling efforts are integrated into broader district goals and strategies.

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of counseling services through reflective practice data-informed decision-making and peer engagement.

Qualifications:

  • Current school counselor with strong knowledge of K12 counseling services.
  • One year of experience working as a counselor in Durango Schools.
  • Demonstrated leadership facilitation and communication skills.
  • Experience or familiarity with MTSS career readiness initiatives and the ASCA model.
  • Commitment to equity student well-being and collaboration.
