This position will be primarily based out of the West Ashley Cancer Center.

Primary Function/General Purpose of Position
Under the supervision of the Lead Genetics Counselor the Genetics Counselor is responsible for providing genetic counseling to patients parents and families.
Essential Job Functions
Gathers family and medical history and provides counsel to patients and/or families in cases of genetic disorders or birth defects.
Discusses benefits and limitations of genetic testing informed consent and interested patients.
Documents in patient charts and develops follow-up recommendations for patient; documents case and maintains appropriate records ensuring confidentiality.
Assists families and understanding genetic disorders in their families probable course of the disorder available management strategies medical recommendations from the geneticist and recurrence risks.
Develops and presents educational and related programs as appropriate.
Coordinates and supports the execution of research of protocol as needed including recruitment and assessment of research subjects provision of patient advice and support and maintenance of research records.
Performs associated administrative or clerical tasks which may include special projects correspondence and program funding activities.
Provides patient care/counseling to all patients of childbearing age.

Licensing/Certification
Certified Genetic Counselor (CGC) American Board of Genetic Counseling (required)
Education
Masters degree in Genetic Counseling or directly equivalent discipline (required)
Work Experience
2 years of experience working in a same or similar position (required)
Training
EPIC Electronic Health Record (preferred)
