Description

Overview:

  • The Associate Director Spiritual Health Emory Healthcare (SHEH) is the non-physician lead spiritual officer of an Emory Healthcare facility assigned by the Director for overall responsibility for the management leadership and administration of the work of the SH CEC SH CCSH SH Residents and Interns relative to the delivery of spiritual counseling to patients staff and their families for the assigned hospital facility.
  • The Associate Director collaborates with the Director and other Emory SHEH leadership to create opportunities to influence the mission and integration of ethical values into patient care delivery.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • This work is accomplished in a matrix organizational structure where decision making is participatory and are aligned for the success not only of Emory Healthcare but also of the Woodruff Health Sciences Center.
  • Key responsibilities include ethical leadership administration of and organization for delivery of spiritual health care and counseling of the patients families and staff for the assigned facility within Emory Healthcare.
  • These areas of responsibilities require successful collaboration with various management levels within the leadership of Spiritual Health.

Chaplaincy Management:

  • Serves as lead Spiritual Health leader for an assigned facility with Emory Healthcare leading the comprehensive integrated resources for spiritual care for the facility.
  • Assures delivery of spiritual care in an empathic manner insuring appropriate spiritual care to patients families and staff in assigned facility.
  • May coordinate a program of ACPE Clinical Pastoral Education in keeping with the expectation of excellence within the assigned facility.
  • Monitors and evaluates the delivery of care to ensure appropriateness of counsel.
  • Provides guidance and insight into issues of ethics.
  • Provides oversight of spiritual care services to patients families and staff.
  • Manages and leads the team of professional spiritual health personnel within the assigned facility.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: A masters degree in divinity.
  • Experience:
    • Five (5) years of experience in ministry with demonstrated competence in pastoral care.
    • Hospital-based positions require previous health care experience in the appropriate pastoral care area such as mental health geriatrics or pediatrics and may require certification by one or more certifying agencies.

Certification & Skills:

  • Certified as an Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) Associate Supervisor and ordination or endorsement by an acknowledged ecclesiastical body.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Academic medical center experience preferred.
