You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailThe Nichols Middle School is looking for a long-term substitute counselor and wellness teacher for August through December.
The middle school counselor & wellness teacher will support the social and emotional well-being of the students in fifth through eighth grade and deliver student-centered developmentally appropriate health and wellness programming focused on the many dimensions of health and wellness. The ideal candidate will work closely with the Head of the Middle School MS Dean of Students and School Nurse as well as the teachers and parents to support the social-emotional needs of students.
Duties:
Provide preliminary counseling and intervention for students struggling with social emotional and behavioral problems
Identify and help teachers and families address student learning and behavior problems which interfere with academic and social success in school
Maintain thorough and accurate notes regarding interactions with all students including but not limited to federal and state mandated forms client diagnostic records and progress notes.
Maintain confidentiality of records relating to students treatment ; maintain all records in a secure location and if electronic in appropriate password protected folders
Insure that all appropriate parental and student consents are obtained and kept on record (as needed)
Support faculty in their roles as advisors and teachers provide information and resources both in and out of the classroom around certain topics of relevance to the school community
Be familiar with and prepared to address such issues as substance abuse bullying anger management careers depression relationships LGBTQ issues self -image eating disorders stress and suicide
Meet regularly with teachers learning specialists and academic directors to discuss issues concerning students and to review case studies and referrals for psycho-educational evaluations and screenings etc.
Evaluate students mental well-being based on experience knowledge and observations including in the classrooms as needed and requested
Provide support and guidance to parents related to child development; participate in parent conferences when requested
Maintain a current and accurate referral database of mental health service providers; connect parents with outside therapeutic referrals as needed; and coordinate with outside mental health and other providers working with students (educational therapist speech/language pathologists developmental pediatricians)
Teach a prepared Wellness curriculum class to 5th - 8th grade students. 7th and 8th are scheduled blocks 5th and 6th will be push-ins based on block schedule and availability
Full-Time
