The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery is seeking an individual with a strong clinical background as well as demonstrated leadership experience in both research and education to serve as the Chief of Pediatric and Congenital Cardiac Surgery. The successful applicant will also serve as Co-Director of the Pediatric and Congenital Heart Center along with the Chief of Pediatric Cardiology.
The Pediatric and Congenital Heart Center is a subunit of the Joint Pediatric Enterprise formed by UT Southwestern Medical Center and Childrens Health System of Texas. The Heart Center includes more than 59 adult and pediatric congenital cardiologists 10 congenital cardiac anesthesiologists 15 pediatric cardiac intensivists and 5 congenital heart surgeons. The current physical plant at Childrens Medical Center includes 32 cardiovascular intensive care unit beds 40 acute care cardiac beds 3 operating rooms 3 catheterization laboratories and two dedicated cardiac MRI scanners. Planning is well underway for a brand new 552 bed childrens hospital and the Co-Director/Division Chief will be expected to have substantial input into the final form of the new hospital and heart center. The center is in the DFW metropolitan area the fourth largest in the country and among the fastest growing in the country.
The position is full time and based at Childrens Medical Center Dallas.
Applicants must be certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery (ABTS) with additional ABTS Certification in Congenital Cardiac Surgery. Eligibility for a Texas Medical License is required.

To the extent this position requires the holder to research work on or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 113.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position.
Appointment rank will be commensurate with academic accomplishment and experience. Consideration may be given to applicants seeking less than a full-time schedule.
