A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A HEAT PROGRAM SPECIALIST
This position supports the HEAT Manager in executing and implementing HEAT (utility assistance) Crisis HELP and other utility-focused programs ensuring program compliance with Federal State local and Utah Community Action policies and procedures. Accountable for monitoring program reports and supporting program management.
The position involves training hiring outreach initiatives and direct client services. It requires collaborating with intra- and interagency partners to develop promote and execute outreach events and recruitment efforts. As an agency representative the HEAT team provides exceptional customer service and advocates for clients through a trauma-informed client-centered approach. This role involves driving a personal vehicle so a valid Utah drivers license and current personal auto insurance must be maintained at all times. Mileage reimbursement is available. The position may also include supervising direct staff.

- Knowledge of case management for low-income clients including goal setting energy education and making referrals. Experienced with clients who recently experienced homelessness.
- Skilled in resolving conflicts.
- Proficient in internet and computer applications along with data entry.
- Detail-oriented to ensure grant goals are met.
- Familiar with HEAT compliance standards.
- Maintains confidentiality and accountability.
- Good at connecting with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Able to build positive relationships especially during crises.
- Organized with good time management.
- Able to work professionally with community partners and within the agency.
- Works well both independently and as part of a team.
- Uses sound judgment and solves problems quickly.
- Receptive to feedback and team-focused.
- Knowledge of community resources agencies and referral processes.
- Experienced in creating and leading training sessions.
- Willing to support colleagues as needed.
- Fluent in spoken and written English.
REQUIRED EDUCATION EXPERIENCE LICENSE
- High School Diploma or GED required
- MS Office experience
- One year of supervision experience OR one year of HEAT experience
- Valid Drivers License
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors degree in social human or family services
- Two years of supervisory experience
- Previous HEAT experience
- Bilingual (Spanish or Arabic preferred)
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This job requires mobility physical dexterity and the ability to read focus organize recall and retain information. Physical demands include sitting and/or standing for extended periods bending lifting approximately 25 pounds and regular use of the telephone copier fax and computer.
