Job Description

Primary Purpose
This is an entry level non-sworn position in the Police Department. Upon completion of a P.O.S.T. certified background check incumbents are assigned to or are currently attending a P.O.S.T. Basic Academy and must satisfactorily pass all of the requirements that lead to the possession of the P.O.S.T. Basic Certificate in addition to passing all phases of the background process. An assignment to this classification is temporary and the incumbent is considered at-will. Appointment to a sworn Police Officer position is contingent upon successful completion of the academy followed by a final review by the Police Chief or his designee.

Essential Functions
Attend and successfully complete the P.O.S.T. Basic Academy approved by the University of the Pacific Department of Public Safety and any other related training. Successfully learn the academic and physical (defensive tactics firearm driving etc.) requirements of the position being trained for. Patrols University property in a patrol car bicycle and foot patrol. Provides information and direction to staff faculty students and visitors to campus. Enforces City County and State laws and University rules and regulations. Conducts preliminary and follow-up investigations. Makes arrests as necessary and prepares reports. Interview victims complainants and witnesses. Testifies and presents evidence in court. Assists in performance of a variety of community relations and crime prevention activities. Participates in public relations programs to promote better police-community relations and crime prevention. Performs other duties as assigned or requested. This position serves as Campus Security Authority ( CSA ) as outlined by the Clery Act. CSAs have federally mandated responsibilities to report crimes that are reported to them. Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or G.E.D. Must be 21 years of age. Must be a citizen of the United States or permanent resident alien who is eligible for and has applied for citizenship. Valid California drivers license and satisfactory driving record. No felony convictions.

Preferred Qualifications
Receive a score of 42 or higher on the Pellet B exam. Positive attitude proven ability to work successfully with diverse populations and demonstrated commitment to promote and enhance diversity and inclusion. Basic computer skills in Windows operating system Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. Ability to read maps and retain street building and compass directions. Effectively communicate over telephone and radio equipment. Bachelors degree Knowledge in Community Oriented Policing. Certified in Basic First Aid. Effective operation of Emergency Vehicles. Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures. Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice equity and inclusion in a university setting. Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Work Schedule
Must be willing to work evenings night weekend and holiday shifts.
