  • Job Title: Contracted District Climate and Engagement Liaison
    Location: Administration Building
    Reports to: Executive Directors of Student Services
    Salary: $24.00 per hour
    Terms of Employment: 3rd Party Contract; up to 40 hours per week for 201 days per fiscal year

    Job Goal:
    The goal of the District Climate and Engagement Liaison is to work collaboratively with District and Building Administration as well as Elementary and Secondary School Climate Liaisons to build the capacity of school climate and community engagement by assisting in the:

    • Coordination of student climate supports for students struggling with school attendance.
    • Engagement of families in the educational process.
    • Improvement of student attendance across all grade levels.
    • Promotion of students being healthy present and positive members of a safe learning environment.

    The District Climate and Engagement Liaison supports district-wide improvement efforts by focusing on four major initiatives aligned with the MPS Michigan Integrated Continuous Improvement Plan:

    • Increase student attendance.
    • Promote a positive school climate student health and wellness and parent engagement through the coordination of district initiatives.
    • Provide additional climate supports and incentives for students who are chronically absent or at risk.
    • Support building staff in the implementation of evidence-based strategies aligned with district climate goals.

    Qualifications:

    • Associates degree or equivalent coursework preferred.
    • 35 years of work experience with children is preferred.
      • Examples include: conducting mediations developing or supporting behavior interventions analyzing data or resolving complex situations in a school setting.
    • Experience with truancy procedures and/or working with the court system is strongly preferred.
    • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills.
    • Ability to motivate and inspire a diverse group of stakeholders toward a common goal.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Collaborate with district and building administrators to coordinate climate-related events and attendance improvement efforts.
    • Support building-based Climate Liaisons in developing and monitoring Attendance Improvement Plans.
    • Coordinate and implement family engagement opportunities at the district level.
    • Develop and lead district-wide initiatives that foster a positive climate for students staff and families.
    • Provide leadership and training to building staff regarding prevention intervention and response to bullying discrimination and other negative behaviors.
    • Serve as the districts primary truancy officer in accordance with Monroe County and State of Michigan truancy laws and procedures.
    • Prepare and submit required documentation for truancy cases; communicate with parents/guardians and staff regarding truancy referrals.
    • Appear in court as needed for truancy proceedings and represent the district in coordination with the Monroe County Prosecutors Office.
    • Monitor progress of climate-related strategies outlined in the District and School Improvement Plans.
    • Research new programs and best practices related to school climate and engagement.
    • Maintain confidentiality of student records.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Directors of Student Services.
