Job Description


Qualified applicants should possess experience and knowledge in Urban Forestry and the FFS Construction trade particularly in cement work. The applicant must be able to read blueprints and assist with the installation of landscaping and irrigation systems for water. This includes tasks such as installing irrigation systems planting trees and shrubs and setting up sprinkler timers and irrigation valves. The role will also involve installing decomposed granite pathways and concrete sidewalks. Additionally familiarity with other construction trades is preferred.

SCOPE OF WORK:

This position is responsible for leading corps members to foster and encourage the development of good work habits including timeliness punctuality neatness and ethics while on worksites. The incumbent of this position will assist the supervisor in teaching corps members work skills that can be used in obtaining employment while ensuring projects are completed within timelines and meet industry standards.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Assist the supervisor in motivating and directing the project crew of young adults in a rigorous work program
  • Model Corp procedures and adherence to program goals and objectives
  • Creates positive crew morale and builds teamwork by working alongside the corpsmember and setting the work
  • Assist the supervisor with documentation of crew member participation
  • Follows project plans and schedules and assists in leading the daily project.
  • Assist in supervising project progress to ensure work done meets industry standards.
  • Ensures safe work practices and proper use of tools
  • Assist the supervisor in leading crews in how and when the work will be performed including prep work that must be completed before the project
  • Assist supervisor in ensuring safety at assigned work site and the safety of all corpsmembers by adhering to CSET and State standards
  • Report to the supervisor any accidents delays affecting the schedule and unforeseen conditions.
  • Participates in staff and corpsmember trainings
  • Performs other duties including but not limited to development of work schedules ensuring that participants are adhering to attendance and other applicable operating rules policies

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • The highest degree and represents the agency in a professional capacity
  • Knowledge of and ability to assist in teaching trade skills
  • Knowledge of and ability to learn relevant policies procedures and strategies to promote effective safe operations.
  • Apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form
  • Knowledge of materials methods and common hand and power tools such as hammers hoists saws drills and wrenches to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices using the process
  • Knowledge in Landscape construction installing irrigation systems planting trees and shrubs installing irrigation clocks and installing irrigation valves.
  • Ability to read landscaping plans.
  • Ability to assist the supervisor in explaining demonstrating and clarifying to others the understanding of the well-established principles practices and policies
  • Ability to lead successfully under moderately stressful conditions to report to supervisors immediately of crises and to balance priorities within and between work
  • Ability to work independently as well as with crews

  • The employee must occasionally lift 60 pounds and/or move up to 100 pounds
  • While performing the duties of this job the employee will likely work near moving mechanical parts fumes toxic or caustic
  • The employee will be exposed to extreme outside weather in cold hot wet and/or humid conditions.
  • The noise level in the work environment will vary depending on location assigned projects and tasks.
