Senior Director of Network Engineering

About the Job:

We are seeking an experienced and visionary Senior Director of Network Engineering to lead our core networking team. This role involves overseeing the design implementation and optimization of Gartners core networking infrastructure ensuring seamless connectivity and reliability for our global operations. The ideal candidate will possess a deep technical background strong leadership skills and the ability to drive innovative solutions in a fast-paced environment.

What Youll Do:

• Strategic Leadership: Define and implement the strategic technical direction for Gartners network and internal data center footprint including in-office infrastructure across global locations. Develop and execute a comprehensive core networking strategy that aligns with Gartners business objectives and future growth plans.
• Infrastructure Management: Oversee 24x7x365 infrastructure network operations and database management ensuring availability performance and security.
• Team Leadership: Direct and mentor a diverse team of 15 network data center and database engineers across the USA EMEA and Asia fostering a culture of collaboration innovation and continuous improvement.
• Network Design & Implementation: Oversee the architecture design and deployment of core networking solutions including routing switching and high availability.
• Performance Optimization: Monitor and analyze network and data center metrics implementing enhancements to ensure optimal system efficiency and stability.
• Security & Compliance: Establish and enforce network security protocols ensuring compliance with industry standards and best practices to protect Gartners data and infrastructure.
• Vendor Management: Manage relationships with technology vendors and service providers evaluating and selecting third-party solutions that support networking objectives.
• Budget Management: Develop and oversee a $3.M CapEx budget for infrastructure refresh ensuring alignment with strategic priorities and fiscal responsibility.
• Cost Control: Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives including the consolidation of data centers and the establishment of a unified cloud/on-prem operations team.
• Reliability Improvement: Develop and enforce change control processes and standardization initiatives to significantly reduce system outages and enhance overall reliability.
• Operational Excellence: Schedule and execute data backups for both cloud and on-premises environments ensuring robust data retention.
• Cybersecurity Enhancement: Elevate enterprise risk management by deploying advanced network and data protection solutions and ransomware backup strategies to safeguard against external threats.
• Resource Management: Implement metrics-based reporting structures using observability tools to monitor infrastructure and network health and prioritize maintenance activities.
• Collaboration Across Teams: Partner with IT and engineering teams to integrate core networking solutions with cloud services data centers and other technology initiatives.
• Innovation & Technology Adoption: Stay updated on emerging technologies and trends in networking evaluating potential applications for Gartners infrastructure and services.

What You Need:

• Bachelors degree in computer science Information Technology or a related field; Masters degree preferred.
• 12 years of experience in networking engineering with at least 5 years in a leadership role focused on core networking.
• Proven expertise in core networking technologies including LAN WAN MPLS BGP OSPF and network security protocols.
• Strong understanding of cloud networking and hybrid cloud architectures (AWS Azure etc.).
• Deep understanding of data center and network operations including physical and virtual environments.
• Experience in managing enterprise databases both on-premises and in AWS and Azure clouds.
• Strong leadership communication and project management skills.
• In-depth knowledge of network technologies and security practices.
• Experience with cloud migration strategies and cloud management tools.
• Expertise in VMware or similar virtualization technologies for server and storage management.
• Ability to optimize virtual environments for performance and cost-effectiveness.
• Knowledge of data backup disaster recovery and business continuity planning.
• Familiarity with backup technologies and strategies for both on-premises and cloud environments.
• Understanding cybersecurity principles risk management and compliance frameworks.
• Experience deploying data protection solutions including ransomware backup strategies.
• Proficiency in analytics tools for monitoring infrastructure health and performance.
• Capability to leverage data-driven insights for decision-making and operational improvements.
• Relevant certifications (e.g. CCIE CCNP CISSP) are highly desirable.
