Department Summary

The Division of Student Life supports the universitys academic mission and strategic plan through comprehensive programs and services that promote and advance student learning and success while fostering an inclusive and vibrant campus community. Student Life includes four major departments the Office of the Dean of Students Erb Memorial Union Physical Education & Recreation and University Health Services. Student Life also runs a number of key programs including Parent and Family Programs Major Student Events (Commencement Homecoming University Day) Fraternity and Sorority Life Counseling Health Promotion Multicultural and Identity Based Support Services Student Government Engagement & Success Student Conduct and Community Standards and Support for Students in Crisis and Students of Concern.

University Health Services (UHS) is a unit within the Division of Student Life and is a nationally accredited (AAAHC) outpatient clinic providing primary care to students at the University of Oregon. All staff are required to uphold the values of the UHS.

This position works in support of the University Health Services mission and vision and is consistent with UO policy. Some aspects of this position may be completed in collaboration with other University departments.

Position Summary

Counseling Services (CS) is a department integrated with University Health Services in the Division of Student Services and Enrollment Management. Consistent with its collaborative care model CS provides single-session intervention; short term focused individual therapy; group therapy; consultation; education and prevention outreach; and referral services to university students. Most psychological services are covered by the mandatory health fee. Counseling Services also provides consultation to and educational programs for faculty and staff.

The Senior Staff Therapist/Psychologist: Latinx Student Specialist provides psychological intervention prevention and postvention programs and services to the university community primarily to University of Oregon students. This position provides programs and services that address serious mental health issues as well as those that are developmental and preventative in nature. Experience with developmental and serious mental health issues relevant to university students is required. This position provides clinical services such as drop-in and single-session intervention initial clinical assessment short-term individual therapy group therapy crisis intervention and case disposition; serves as supervisor and trainer for graduate trainees and employees; completes clinical and other administrative tasks; develops implements and evaluates educational and prevention outreach programs; provides consultation to faculty staff students parents and families and other mental health/health care providers; and participates in department and university meetings and committees. This position will also provide clinical educational outreach and consultation services specifically relevant to the needs of Latinx students. This position will also provide services to undocumented students of various nationalities students from mixed status families and to students in the DACA program.

The Senior Staff Therapist/Psychologist: Latinx Student Specialist adheres to university and department policies State of Oregon statutes pertaining to the practice of counseling/psychology and relevant ethical codes. This position may supervise doctoral interns practicum interns and/or externs and reports to a member of the Counseling Center leadership team.

This position can be a 10-month (September 1-June 30) or 12-month position.

Some evening and weekend hours will be required.

This position requires successful completion of a criminal background check and routine screening of Medicaid and Medicare Exclusion Lists. Employee loses eligibility for employment if on the List of Excluded Individuals and Entities (LEIE) and/or System of Award Management (SAM). In addition employee must be in compliance with UHS policies regarding tuberculosis screening measles and mumps (MMR) seasonal flu hepatitis B and other immunization requirements.

Minimum Requirements

Therapist:
Masters degree in counseling couples and family therapy or social work. All degree requirements must be complete prior to start date.
Applicants with masters degrees must be currently licensed and able to obtain licensure in Oregon prior to start date.
Eighteen months of experience:
- with a variety of clinical issues ranging from developmental issues to more serious psychopathology.
- providing short term therapy.
-at least nine months of that experience providing therapy/counseling services to Latinx and/or undocumented clients/patients.

Psychologist:
Doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA-accredited program. Degree must be granted prior to start date.
Successful completion of an APA- or CPA-accredited doctoral internship prior to start date.
Eighteen months of experience:
- with a variety of clinical issues ranging from developmental issues to more serious psychopathology
- providing short-term therapy
- at least nine months of that experience providing therapy/counseling services to Latinx and/or undocumented clients/patients
Must be licensable in Oregon. If currently licensed in another state must be licensed in Oregon within six months of hire.
Unlicensed applicants must have an approved residency contract with the Oregon Board of Psychologists within one month of start date and must be licensed within two years of start date.

Professional Competencies

Multicultural competence and commitment to multicultural organizational development.
Effective communication skills.
Ability to articulate an understanding of the role of a counseling center on a university campus.

Preferred Qualifications

Nine months of experience in a university counseling center.
Experience providing educational and/or prevention outreach geared toward Latinx and/or undocumented students.
Provide clinical educational and/or prevention services to undocumented students of various nationalities students from mixed status families and/or to students in the DACA program.
