Position Title: On Call Head Lighting

Length of Work Year: On Call/Substitute

Salary Information: $30.00/hour

Department: Madison Center for the Arts

Supervision: Supervised by Technical Director

Reports To: Stage Manager Technical Director and Lighting Designer

This position is an on-call activated on a show-by-show basis.

Overview: Oversee the lighting and power needs for the event or show ensuring smooth operations. Responsible for managing electric systems and structures for crew and production.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. 1-2 years experience as an event electrician.
  2. Proficient with EOS Family console programming (Element ION GIO Apex)
  3. Experience with operating and maintaining LED lighting instruments.
  4. Experience with tying in high-amperage power via camlock or bare wire.
  5. Proficient with electronics and circuitry such as Ohms Law.
  6. Scissor lift certification/experience preferred comfortable working at height.
  7. Ability to work closely with people in a professional and positive manner.
  8. Ability to work closely and creatively with design teams directors and other members of the staff.
  9. Proficient with computers and standard office suite ability to generate and maintain professional level paperwork and tracking for each production.
  10. Ability to multitask while maintaining productivity.
  11. Ability to remain levelheaded in high-stress environments.
  12. Ability to troubleshoot under pressure and remain composed.
  13. Ability to work independently with limited oversight and meet deadlines.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Coordinate with production staff designers and performers oversee sound setup operation and strike for rehearsals and performances ensure sound quality and troubleshoot any issues that arise.
  2. Work effectively with other departments (audio rigging stage crew etc.) Work with clients and quickly translate their designs to the stage.
  3. Ensure compliance with safety protocols and industry best practices.
  4. Serve as the primary audio contact for the event or show.
  5. Assist with event load-in setup operation and load-out.
  6. Manage and maintain the venues lighting and power systems and equipment.
  7. Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues efficiently under time-sensitive conditions.
  8. Supervise and mentor the lighting team.
  9. Ensure compliance with safety protocols.
  10. Lead in facilitating all electrical needs for all rental events/productions including the testing maintenance and upkeep of all lighting instruments in The Madison.
  11. Review lighting plots to evaluate feasibility and implementation in The Madison
  12. Lead in preparing and installing equipment based on plots and designer supplied specifications; including but not limited to tech table set-up i.e. tables headsets and video monitors god mic etc.
  13. Collaborate to produce show-related lighting paperwork.
  14. Maintain organized and accurate records of design execution for a given production. Make archival copies of all paperwork and show files.
  15. Adhere to the proper shut-down of all lighting special effects stage equipment and other electrical appliances assuring that the theatre is left in a safe secure and appropriately lit manner and that equipment is locked in a secure place.
