Job Description:
Amherst College invites applications for the Associate Dean of AdmissionCoordinator of Transfer and International Recruitment position. The Associate Dean of AdmissionCoordinator of Transfer and International Recruitment is a full-time year-round position starting at $80000 - commensurate with experience. Given Amhersts distinction as one of the most diverse liberal arts colleges in the country the successful candidate will demonstrate the ways in which they bring value to and will work towards supporting a broadly diverse community.
The Associate Dean is a critical leadership position within a highly collaborative Office of Admission. This role includes significant opportunity for admission and college access leadership on a global scale.
The Associate Dean leads international and transfer strategy for Amherst Admission. This includes leading efforts in outreach recruitment application review and the coordination of selection committees for international and transfer candidates. The Associate Dean develops and implements strategy utilizing data and research findings in collaboration with Admission leadership and campus partners including Financial Aid the Center for International Student Engagement the Class & Access Resource Center and the Office of Immigration Services.
A central focus of the role is the development and execution of Amhersts international recruitment strategy designed to attract exceptional students from around the world and further enrich the Colleges global community. Equally important is the Associate Deans leadership in transfer and military-affiliated admission which includes the support of an Assistant Dean of Admission. Together the Associate Dean and Assistant Dean build strong relationships with community colleges and college access partners to expand and support pathways to Amherst for high-achieving transfer and veteran students.
This individual represents Amherst through on-campus programming and recruitment travel and reviews applications for both first-year and transfer candidates. The Associate Dean serves as an advisor to the Dean of Admission and takes an active role in supporting a diverse workforce and fostering a respectful inclusive and welcoming campus environment.
Summary of Responsibilities:
International Recruitment Coordinator and International Admission Liaison
Work with the Dean of Admission to achieve an academically talented and diverse international student body
Prioritize international recruitment and yield efforts with other team members and with the Dean of Admission including:
Cultivating relationships with high-school counselors in international regions as well as contacts within international educational organizations
Engaging alumni outside of the United States
Participating and planning multi-college travel programs in international regions
Work collaboratively with the international team to formulate goals and best practices providing context and direction
Prepare organize and serve as committee chair of international student committee
Keep abreast of international admission recruitment and evaluation trends within the domestic and international enrollment landscape
Work with other campus constituencies when needed to collaborate on international efforts (alumni advancement Office of Student Affairs)
Transfer & U.S. Military-Connected Admission Program Oversight
Serve as the lead for the transfer and U.S. veteran admission process including budget management recruitment evaluation selection communications and yield
Develop and pursue strategies for achieving the Colleges goals for enrolling two-year college transfer students and U.S. service members/veterans
Travel in-person and virtually for transfer and military-affiliated recruitment
Prepare organize and service as committee chair of transfer committee
Supervise an Assistant Dean of Admission who provides tactical support for:
Key college access partnerships (e.g. Service2School Transfer Scholars Network Honors Transfer Council of California Warrior-Scholar Project)
Population-specific on-campus/virtual student programming (e.g. Amhersts U.S. Servicemember/Veteran Travel Grant transfer/veteran travel-funding yield programs Community College Transfer Open House and Warrior-Scholar Project)
Transfer admission processes
Oversee responsibilities related to the transfer credit review process and partner with members of the Office of the Registrar and the Office of Student Affairs in the enrollment of new transfer students
General Admission Responsibilities
Create recruitment strategies and lead all aspects of recruitment travel within assigned geographic regions
Conduct in-person and virtual presentations and workshops for groups up to 250 prospective students guests and counselors
Cultivate relationships with high-school counselors community college advisors and Community-Based Organizations (CBOs)
Review applications for first-year and transfer admission including primary oversight of applicants within assigned regional territories
Participate as a voting member of the first-year and transfer admission committees
Build and run queries for use and analysis in recruitment strategies admission programs and application review via the Office of Admissions CRM Slate
Qualifications:
Required
Bachelors Degree
5 years of experience in higher education admission or a related field
Ability to articulate the benefits of a liberal arts education to a diverse audience including in international and transfer markets
Excellent interpersonal verbal and written communication skills to communicate effectively with varied constituencies including prospective applicants parents high school military and community college counselors alumni faculty and staff
Experience cultivating and maintaining networks in international markets
Interest in working with transfer and military-affiliated student communities
Proficiency in the use of computerized systems (e.g Google Workspace/Microsoft Office Slack Workday Zoom)l related web analytics and experience with web editing tools
Excellent time management presentation and organizational skills
Close consistent attention to detail
ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends when required
Travel approximately 20-30 days for recruitment annually
Experience with social media across platforms with knowledge of best approaches at the international level
Ability to handle confidential information with respect and discretion
Valid drivers license and successful credentialing in order to operate college vehicles
Successful completion of required reference and background checks
Preferred
Masters Degree
Experience working with web-based Customer Relations Management System (CRM) Slate
Experience with creating implementing and assessing strategic programs and initiatives
Supervisory experience
Fluency in a language in addition to English
