Job Summary:

Caterpillar Trimble Control Technologies (CTCT) is a joint venture between Caterpillar and Trimble whose purpose is to transform the way heavy equipment customers shape the world with solutions that differentiate Caterpillar and Trimble.

The Grade Control Test Engineer will be part of an international team providing internal verification and validation (V&V) for CTCT products. This position networks closely with CTCT internal product/project teams as well as Caterpillar and Trimble product teams to provide high-quality products to the earthmoving paving and mining industries. This hands-on role will leverage the experiences and training gained from previous verification and validation positions.

What You Will Do:

• Accountable for creating and executing test plans regarding internal verification and validation
• Responsible for testing software/hardware fixes finding bugs and issues documentation data collection setups machine software & hardware updates troubleshooting and machine operation.
• Daily on-machine OR bench test validation activities supporting grade control setups.
• Drive usage of tools such as the Risk Based Thinking Process Test Reports or Design Verification Plan & Reports (DVP&R) to evaluate the effectiveness of the validation activity plan on critical failure modes and direct activities to mitigate risk.
• Follow products through the full lifecycle. This includes having knowledge and gaining experience across all validation venues.
• Management of Trimble Caterpillar and CTCT databases used in tracking product issues

Education requirement:

Candidates should possess an engineering degree in mechanical electrical or computer science AND/OR demonstrate equivalent knowledge through professional expertise

• Tracks project progress and timelines to ensure milestones are met and risks are addressed proactively.

Product Testing:

• Develops and documents product testing procedures including defect tracking and analysis.
• Conducts functional usability safety and integration testing to ensure compliance with requirements.
• Selects appropriate testing tools and environments; summarizes results to support continuous improvement.

Troubleshooting Technical Problems:

• Troubleshoots common hardware software and communication issues using standard procedures and vendor-specific tools.
• Documents technical problems and resolutions; contributes to defining troubleshooting standards and evaluation criteria.
• Analyzes application issues and identifies root causes through structured diagnostic methods.

Additional Information:

This position requires the candidate to work onsite five days a week at the Peoria IL office.
