Job Description

Position Summary
The Assistant Vice President of Online Academic Programs provides academic leadership for IU Online and serves as the primary liaison for the academic leadership and faculty from across IUs campuses higher education stakeholders and community members. This position is responsible for fostering a culture of collaboration partnership and academic excellence in IUs online programs. The AVP promotes IUs online opportunities and quality with both internal and external constituencies and stakeholders. The AVP oversees a network of part-time faculty directors who are charged with leading the collaborative addition the AVP manages the staff involved in program management program assessment quality assessment rubrics (like Quality Matters) and other forms of academic support. The AVP serves as primary contact with other university-wide units like UITS Learning Technologies. The incumbent will also work closely with the Associate Vice President for Regional Campus Academic Affairs to maintain a coordinated strategy to support the academic endeavors of the campuses. The position reports to the Associate Vice President for IU Online and will serve as the offices representative to faculty governance bodies including the University Faculty Council to meet both campus and university goals. To foster strong relationships with campus communities the incumbent will be expected to frequently travel to all of IUs campuses as well as represent IU at professional meetings and conferences. About IU Online IU Online is Indiana Universitys award-winning approach to fostering and managing best-in-class and nationally ranked online education. Serving nearly 10000 students across all of IUs campuses IU Online manages the IU Online brand marketing recruitment student services and compliance related to IUs 180 online programs almost 50 of which are offered collaboratively across multiple its work with the IU campuses IU Online emphasizes a partnership-based relationship that focuses on embedding online experiences into the core on-campus education that IU has delivered since 1820. This position will lead and supervise the academic elements of IU Online including: Collaborative online program development and management. Provide strategic management for a portfolio of 50 online collaborative programs. Facilitate and advance opportunities for campus academic leadership and faculty to consider design and launch new collaborative programs. Oversee university wide teams of program managers and other staff to provide support for faculty directors faculty program committees and campus leadership in the management of collaborative degrees. Strategic support for single-campus online programs. Provide and facilitate strategic consultation services to academic programs delivered by an individual campus. Lead the provision of other academic services (e.g. program assessment course sharing) for single-campus programs that wish to strategically partner more closely with IU Online. Allocation of IU Online resources for instructional design and technology. Work with UITS Learning Technologies to support faculty in course redesign with the eLearning Design and Services Team. Promote positive faculty experiences through the course design process. Advocate for efficient and student-centered course design. Appointment management and development of Faculty Directors and program committee faculty. Organize academic programs into clusters and recruit skilled and committed faculty leaders to serve as Faculty Directors. Define performance expectations for the faculty directors and committees to comply with university and campus goals. Establish opportunities to build community within and across the committees and promote professional development opportunities for faculty involved in collaborative online program management. Program review and course assessment support . Oversee a team of staff who support online program leadership and faculty (especially for collaborative programs) in designing outcomes assessment rubrics data collection and report generation for the purposes of course and program assessment and reviews. Ensure that these processes meet or exceed expectations for accreditation and regulation. Share best practices within the university community for their adoption in other programs. Course quality support including Quality Matters. Foster and lead faculty-led discussions to ensure programs included in IU Online meet high standards of quality and are highly valued by faculty students employers peers and other stakeholders. Support the universitys efforts to expand the number of courses that meet national quality standards in online education such as Quality Matters. Academic support. Provide leadership in the design adoption and delivery of academic support. Facilitate intercampus conversations to share best practices and seek consistent access to these services across all addition to these primary duties this position will also Emphasize the inter-campus nature of IUs approach to online education and provide leadership in developing partnerships between IU Online and the campuses. Advance the goals of the IU campuses and the consortium of the regional campuses. Serve as the primary point of contact and support for IU faculty regarding online education and those who are at administrative levels at the campuses. Participate in the development review approval and implementation of academic policy with regard to its impact on online education. Serve as the chief point of contact for accreditation with regard to online education and actively support campuses and programs in maintaining accreditation. Serve as a resource for academic leadership in envisioning the role online education plays in higher education. The individual in this position will be expected to frequently travel to IUs 5 regional campuses (East Kokomo Northwest Southeast and South Bend) Indianapolis and Bloomington.
