BELA Charter School
Brooklyn Emerging Leaders Academy Charter School (BELA) an all-girls high school located in Bedford Stuyvesant Brooklyn focused on SISTERHOOD SCHOLARSHIP STRENGTH and SERVICE is deeply committed to a 100% of our students completing college. The Role
BELA Charter School is seeking a dynamic and mission-driven Director of Strategic Initiatives to lead and support cross-functional priorities that strengthen school operations deepen staff and student engagement and drive external partnerships. This role works closely with the Head of School Chief of Staff and Board of Trustees to advance initiatives aligned with BELAs mission and vision.
The position is full-time 12 month position.
Responsibilities:
1. Administration Operations & People Culture
Collaborate with the Chief of Staff to strengthen internal systems that support effective school operations and team sustainability.
Design and implement staff-facing structures that promote clarity consistency and wellness.
Support strategic planning and progress monitoring of operational goals.
Lead the Sunshine Committee to foster a joyful and connected workplace culture through recognition celebration and staff appreciation efforts.
Model strong collaboration communication and care across teams.
Supervise and coach the schools AmeriCorps fellow(s).
Coordinate logistics for all board meetings including scheduling agenda development materials preparation and follow-up.
Support with the operation of the Welcome Center and other school wide functions.
Lead Head of School listening sessions to strengthen community connections and communication amongst all BELA stakeholders.
Support the schools student recruitment team by assisting with outreach strategies event coordination and relationship-building with prospective families and community partners.
Support enrollment events such as open houses and tours and contribute to a welcoming experience for all prospective students and families.
2. Development & Fundraising
Lead the growth of BELAs resource pipeline through strategic partnerships fundraising efforts and grant writing.
Create compelling written and visual materials that tell the story of BELAs mission impact and student brilliance both print and digital.
Organize and execute the schools annual gala event including event planning logistics sponsorship coordination and guest engagement.
Steward relationships with external partners donors and community stakeholders.
Maintain and update the schools donor database.
Assist in planning and executing fundraising events and donor engagement activities.
Cultivate relationships with elected officials (local and national).
3. Transformative Learning for Students Staff and Families
Lead the planning and execution of BELAs annual Gayle Womens Symposium and graduation
Manage the vision logistics and partnerships for the event.
Strengthen and build community partnerships and relationships that align with BELAs mission and vision.
Collaborate with all teams to strengthen BELAs identity as an Ethnic Studies school
Oversee and support the coordination of student clubs and extracurricular teams ensuring offerings reflect student interests and expand leadership opportunities.
Ensure student and staff learning experiences align with BELAs mission and values.
Facilitate and coordinate BELAs Family University program.
Oversee and manage BELAs Saturday programming twice a month to provide students with enrichment academic support and community-building opportunities beyond the traditional school week.
Expand and enrich Beyond BELA experiences by identifying and coordinating external learning opportunities for students.
Qualifications
Deep commitment to BELAs mission of empowering young women through education culture and community.
10 years of relevant experience in operations development school-based leadership or strategic program design.
Exceptional organizational communication and project management skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities while building strong relationships with staff students and partners.
Creative thinker with a solutions-oriented mindset and attention to detail.
Strong writing and storytelling abilities especially for external communication and fundraising purposes.
Benefits and Salary
Salary for this position starts at $85000 commensurate with addition a comprehensive benefits package is included.
