Schedule*:

Mondays 4:15-8:15
Tuesdays 5:15-8:15
Wednesdays 5:15-8:15
Every third Saturday 8:45 to 12:45 (off on the Monday following a Saturday worked)
*subject to change depending on branch needs

Job Summary: Performs a variety of duties relative to the organization and retrieval of library materials.

Essential Functions:

Functions listed are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar related or a logical assignment to the position.

  1. Provides a consistently high level of service to others by assisting with requests or locating appropriate resources for the request.

  2. Shelves books and other materials.

  3. Pulls books to edge of shelf.

  4. Straightens shelves.

  5. Shelves magazines and newspapers.

  6. Reads shelves.

  7. Shifts books as necessary.

  8. Straightens library furniture and material.

  9. May work at different locations throughout the CCPL system as needed.

  10. Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Specific Performance Standards:

Employees are expected to meet the following performance standards:

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

The employee is expected to perform or possess the following:

  1. Ability to gain working knowledge of Charles County Public Librarys policies and procedures.

  2. Effective communication skills with strong customer focus.

  3. Ability to master procedures related to the shelving of library materials.

  4. Ability to keep all relevant parties informed of all major issues and to recommend changes as appropriate.

  5. Demonstrates sound judgment when making decisions.

  6. Demonstrates attention to detail and accuracy.

  7. Ability to work evenings weekends and at other branches as needed.

Education and Experience:

  1. Must be at least 14 years old and eligible for a work permit.

  2. Have reliable transportation to attend assigned shifts.

Physical and Environmental Conditions:

Work requires routine physical effort in the handling of moderately heavy materials of up to 40 pounds. Work requires standing for long periods of time and some stooping and bending.

Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices libraries classrooms or meeting and training rooms e.g. use of safe work place practices with office equipment and observance of fire and building safety regulations.
