Scale at Amazon is well really big. As a Software Development Manager in the Books Detail Page team youll lead a team of talented engineers building critical customer experiences. Youll be responsible for the technical direction team development and operational excellence of your team while contributing to the broader organizational strategy.
Key job responsibilities
- Lead and develop a team of software engineers fostering technical excellence and career growth
- Own the technical roadmap and architecture decisions for your teams area of responsibility
- Drive hiring and team development to build a strong engineering culture
- Balance operational excellence with new feature development
- Partner with product and business teams to define and execute technical strategy
- Ensure delivery of high-quality software solutions that meet customer needs
A day in the life
As an SDM youll focus on both technical leadership and people management. Your day includes mentoring engineers reviewing technical designs and ensuring operational health of your systems. Youll participate in planning sessions conduct 1:1s with team members and collaborate with other leaders to align on technical direction. Youll spend time on hiring team development and ensuring your team has what they need to succeed.
About the team
Books Detail Page is the cornerstone of Amazons Books eCommerce funnel. After successfully addressing technical debt were now in an exciting phase of customer-focused innovation. Our charter comprises three teams working together to create compelling features that help customers make informed decisions about their book purchases. We own the entire page experience and are passionate about building features that enhance the book discovery and evaluation process.
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle including coding standards code reviews source control management build processes testing certification and livesite operations
- Experience in leading the definition and development of multi tier web services
- Experience managing engineers
- Experience partnering with product and program management teams
- Experience in engineering
- Experience in communicating with users other technical teams and senior leadership to collect requirements describe software product features technical designs and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting hiring mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills and make them more effective product software engineers
