Job Description

Title: Behavior Interventionist

Job Goal: Working directly with students with disabilities and staff to ensure that resources are set to support individualized support plans targeted and specialized interventions are in place and each students unique profile is supported in order to improve outcomes.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Provide guidance modeling and support to students educators and staff in managing challenging behaviors;
  • Foster positive social and emotional development within the classroom and across programs;
  • Ensure all service delivery complies with Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) and Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE);
  • Work with staff to ensure collaboration with parents and guardians in developing strategies for behavior management;
  • Provide deescalation techniques in accordance with district protocols as needed;
  • Assist with the development and implementation of positive behavior plans;
  • Provide instruction to students who are currently unable to access the curriculum;
  • Assist with the creation of a holistic support system for students including data tracking and monitoring;
  • Work with staff and students to develop specific skills and strategies to help them access the curriculum;
  • Participate in Individual Education Program (IEP) meetings as required and participate in the evaluation of students as needed;
  • Monitor student progress; collaborate on the IEP with special education staff
  • Communicate with school personnel outside of the department and with outside agencies;
  • Attend student based departmental and school-wide meetings; and
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Requisite licensure as defined by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) (Special Education /Requisite Level) and Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement.

Have and maintain Safety Care Training.

Experience working with students in a school setting.

Experience implementing all parts of the Individual Education Program (IEP) process and educating students with disabilities.

Bachelors degree (required); Masters degree (preferred)

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

A strong commitment to helping a wide variety of culturally diverse students achieve their full potential.

Ability to support the development of culturally responsive programs and activities that promote student engagement family engagement community involvement and a positive school climate.

Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check (C.O.R.I.) Sexual Offender Record Check (S.O.R.I) and fingerprints.
