Legal Assistant ROLE We need an experienced Legal Support Specialist at the U.S. Attorneys Office Southern District of Georgia (USAO-SDGA). The USAO-SDGA provides litigation and enforcement support to uphold civil and criminal financial obligations in coordination with federal courts and this role you will support the Financial Litigation Unit (FLU) by preparing legal correspondence reconciling financial records analyzing investigative materials and organizing case files and evidence for trial. You will assist Assistant U.S. Attorneys with research document management database maintenance and day-to-day legal administrative tasks. This is a full-time opportunity. Prepare and obtain appropriate signatures for debt collection correspondence
Reconcile indirect payments
Draft boilerplate motions for the AUSA to review and file
Establish and maintain physical files
Prepare declarations
Perform detailed and specialized legal research in support of cases
Review and organize complex factual material including numerical and documentary data
Use tables and citation checking with efficiency
Analyze and evaluate investigative reports testimonies interviews summaries and documents
Prepare and maintain a variety of investigative and trial-related documents and databases
Gather information and organize investigative packages case files or presentations
Record and service incoming calls from defense counsel victims and defendants
Conduct and reconcile inventories such as financial data and administrative files
Review weekly payment reports
Assist government employees in correcting failed payments and reconciling inconsistencies
Distribute and receive daily mail and documents
Maintain Special Assessment Only and Low Dollar Debt cases
Assist in selecting interviewing and negotiating with potential witnesses or defendants
Assist with administrative duties in support of assigned AUSAs
Create maintain and update defendant information in FLU and related databases
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience conducting legal research and analysis summarizing large quantities of information and managing tasks and time effectively
One year of experience in clerical office or administrative support (or an Associates degree or higher as a substitute)
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite word processing document creation and management business administration and data entry
EDUCATON
High school diploma required
Associates degree or higher - preferred
