Job Description

Overview

The VIB-KU Leuven Center for Brain & Disease Research is part of the VIB Life Sciences Institute and is embedded within the University of Leuven which ranks among the worlds top 50 universities. At our Center researchers study the cellular mechanisms of health and disease in the central nervous system.

Dr. Esther Klingler has started her lab in October 2023 within the VIB-KU Leuven Center for Brain & Disease Research. The aim of the research group is to unravel developmental trajectories of emotional circuit neurons; more specifically the team studies the molecular trajectories of amygdala neurons during development. To this end Esther and her team use advanced technologies such as single cell transcriptomics and connectomics.

Description

We are looking for a research technician with experimental skills who will support the team in daily research.

The successful candidate:

  • has knowledge in general wet lab practice (e.g. histology IHC molecular biology) and willingness to learn new techniques and protocols;
  • is expected to handle and perform experiments on animals (mice);

Your Profile:

The successful candidate:

  • possesses a professional bachelor degree in biotechnology or master degree in biomedical or biological sciences or an appropriate related field;
  • is skilled in general lab practice and following standard protocols; expertise in rodent perfusion and dissection is a plus;
  • is willing to work with mice (surgery perfusion and brain dissection of adults and embryos); has a Felasa B certificate or is willing to acquire it in the short term;
  • has basic knowledge in at least one of these fields: molecular and cellular Biology / Neuroscience;
  • must be meticulous detail-oriented and self-motivated and able to interact well with other members of the team;
  • has good organizational time management and communication skills;
  • has very good verbal and written English communication skills.
