About the position: Shady Hill School seeks an enthusiastic and dependable individual to join ourAuxiliary Programs team in a newly designed one-year Auxiliary Programs role of Movement Classroom Assistant and Lower School Afterschool Teacher. This position is ideal for recent graduates or individuals exploring careers in education child development or youth programming. The role blends school day and after school responsibilities including supporting Kindergarten and First Grade Physical Education classes (known as Movement) during the school day and leading a multi-grade Afterschool group from 2:455:45 PM. Additional responsibilities include assisting with Kindergarten Extended Day on Wednesdays (11:45 AM2:45 PM) participating in weekly Afterschool staff meetings supporting recess and lunch duties across Lower School grades and collaborating with the PE team as needed for planning and preparation. This role may also involve homeroom coverage or in-house subbing during regularly scheduled hours with the option for additional subbing beyond the standard schedule. A strong candidate will be flexible collaborative and comfortable working with children from Beginners (Pre-K) through Grade 5. Specific interest or experience in early childhood physical education is especially is a full time (35 hours per week) in-person hourly position beginning in late August 2025 and ending in June 2026. The weekly schedule is 9:45 AM5:45 PM Monday through Thursday and 12:455:45PM Friday. Occasionally there may be some schedule variation on special school days. This position is eligible for full benefits including paid hours during school-year holiday and vacation weeks.
Primary Responsibilities: Instructional & Classroom Support (Approximately 40% of time per week) - Collaborate with Movement teachers and classroom faculty to support instruction and student engagement for Kindergarten and 1st grade students
- Provide individual small group and whole-class support as needed
- Carry out instructional or activity plans in alignment with Movement teacher direction
- Offer classroom coverage during scheduled hours when needed
Afterschool Program (Approximately 50% of time per week) - Take the lead in supervising planning and facilitating afterschool and extended day activities play and routines for Lower School students (pre-K to Grade 5)
- Support students with transitions snack and choice-based programming
- Monitor daily attendance and maintain a safe inclusive environment
- Participate in Afterschool program team meetings
- Encourage autonomy creativity and respectful behavior during loosely structured Afterschool time
Community Supervision & School Life (Approximately 10% of week)- Supervise recess lunch and transitions with warmth and clear expectations
- Escort students to and from activity areas as needed
- Maintain positive open communication with colleagues students and families
- Model and support school values of kindness curiosity and community responsibility
