Job Description

Position Title:

Deputy Director and Title IX & Equity Investigator

Time Type:

Position Summary and Qualifications:

Saint Josephs University is seeking an experienced professional to serve in the role of Title IX & Equity Investigator. Reporting to the Director of the Office of Title IX & Equity Compliance the Deputy Director and Title IX & Equity Investigator will be responsible for investigating allegations of bias harassment and discrimination based on protected categories as well as allegations of sexual misconduct under University civil rights policies. The Deputy Director and Investigator will work closely with multiple University offices and divisions including Public Safety Human Resources and the Center for Diversity & Inclusion. This role will also be responsible for assisting with general student conduct investigations if not already so engaged in their Title IX & Equity duties.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary investigator for allegations of bias harassment and discrimination based on protected categories including allegations of sexual misconduct.
  • Conduct thorough reliable and impartial investigation in response to complaints.
  • Maintain relevant documentation including an investigative timeline and records of correspondence statements interviews evidence and questions for parties/witnesses.
  • Gather and analyzes available evidence assesses credibility of parties/witnesses and makes recommendations/findings as appropriate and in accordance with law/policy.
  • Participate in annual training appropriate to investigative responsibilities and applicable law/policy.
  • Assist the Director of the Office of Title IX & Equity Compliance in providing training professional development and outreach activities related to harassment discrimination and sexual misconduct prevention education to members of the University community.
  • Work collaboratively with University partners in Student Life Human Resources Provosts Office Campus Police and others as appropriate including local law enforcement.
  • Assist the Office of Community Standards with investigations as needed related to general student conduct.
  • Co-chair the Coordinated Community Response Team (CCRT) and assist in planning learning modules and forming agendas for quarterly meetings.
  • Assist the Director of the Office of Title IX & Equity Compliance in facilitating intake meetings and providing supportive and procedural options to community members specifically focusing on employee reports. Assistance with student reports will be provided on an as-needed basis.
  • Perform other job-related tasks as assigned or needed


Minimum Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelors degree
  • Qualifications: 3 5 years of conducting civil rights investigations and/or experience with federal civil rights law
  • Experience conducting civil rights investigations
  • Experience drafting and finalizing civil rights reports preferably in a higher education context
  • Substantial knowledge of civil rights laws and regulations including but not limited to Title IX Title VI Title VII and the Americans with Disabilities Act
  • Demonstrated judgment with the ability to manage highly sensitive and confidential information
  • Exceptional critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrated skills in writing concise logical reports to convey complex issues;
  • Ability to maintain neutrality and work under stress
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and success in working with diverse constituencies to support an inclusive campus environment
  • Strong and effective interpersonal skills
  • The ability to listen well and demonstrate sensitivity to and respect for individual needs
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional and productive working relationships with students staff and faculty members within the University community.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctorate or relevant masters/doctorate degree
  • Experience working in higher education
