QUALIFICATIONS:
Masters Degree with five years teaching experience; leadership experience MA License as a Principal or Special Education Administrator (or working towards this licensure)
SUMMARY: The principal provides leadership and is fully responsible for the general conduct welfare and educational progress of the students under his/her supervision. He/she is responsible for the supervision of all professional and non-professional staff assigned to the schools under his/her control.
PRIMARY DUTIES RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS
- Provides for the health and safety of all students by the planning inspection and review of all school facilities and areas related to student safety walking or riding to and from school.
- Exercises leadership in the instructional program to see that prescribed curricula are followed and to help the faculty develop new and innovative teaching plans and techniques with the goal of improving instruction and learning.
- Is responsible for maintaining and improving the instructional system and learning arrangements which are designed to meet the individual learning needs of each student.
- Recommends to the Superintendent a restructuring of teaching/learning systems to improve the quality of education for all students in his/her school.
- Participates system wide in curriculum development by acquiring expertise in one or more curriculum areas and works with faculty to improve and revise curricula on a continuing basis.
- Develops administers and reviews yearly programs for all learners in his/her school.
- Supports the transition of students from Early Intervention to preschool. Supports and facilitates the Special Education process for students and families. Ensures compliance with student IEPs and special education programming.
- Develops instructional systems that do not lock students into tracks; instead develops learning systems that raise self-esteem and realize students full potential.
- Supervises and evaluates all Unit A and C staff members and supports them in working towards their student learning and professional practice goals.
- Maintains professional understanding of the current research that affects the improvement of teaching and learning; recommends to the Superintendent the changes needed to implement the findings of such research; pursues a professional improvement program by attending conferences reading the educational literature and taking courses.
- Provides enrichment programs in cultural arts for all students and works cooperatively with citizen groups to implement such programs; provides critical and creative thinking opportunities for all students.
- Is responsible for and provides leadership in the development of staff morale.
- Provides leadership in bringing staff and parents together to develop common goals to improve the quality of education; works closely with the parent teacher organizations and the Executive Council of P.T.O. presidents to form a community partnership of educators and parents.
- Plans and develops professional development opportunities that are relevant to individual staff members.
ADMINISTRATIVE GUIDANCE AND PUBLIC RELATIONS
- Supervises directly all teachers teacher aides and secretaries assigned to his/her buildings. He/she also shares supervision of the custodians and is in direct charge of them in the absence of the Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds.
- Attends all Administrative Team Meetings to share in setting goals and creating administrative regulations.
- Is responsible for the safety proper functioning and maintenance of the buildings and equipment under his/her supervision. Initiates repair orders where necessary.
- Requisitions receives and maintains an inventory of all materials supplies textbooks and equipment for his/her schools.
- Is responsible for teacher assignments and the master scheduling of class and students.
- Coordinates information on buses and transportation needs with the School Business Administrator.
- Sees that parents are informed of the progress of their children in all aspects of the school program.
- Recommends such in service programs as are considered necessary for the improvement of faculty skills.
- Prepares budget requests annually for equipment materials and supplies.
- Designs the orientation programs for the new faculty members.
- Prepares duty rosters and delineates and supervises the teaching and administrative duties of staff members including paraprofessionals students teachers and administrative interns.
- Keeps the Superintendent of Schools fully informed about Doyle ECC school affairs at all times.
- Interviews prospective teachers and makes recommendations to the Superintendent of Schools.
- Visits classrooms formally or informally to observe teaching student behavior and general conditions.
- Offers constructive criticisms and descriptive comments regarding performance of professional and non-professional staff under his/her supervision.
- Holds regularly scheduled meetings with groups of teachers or the full faculty to discuss problems of mutual concern and education significance.
- Supervises the preparation updating and revision of curricula and maintains a close contact with other principals to ensure consistency and continuity of the instructional program between schools and through the grade levels.
- Helps build and maintain an active library of professional books curriculum materials audio-visual resources and other special instructional aides.
- Works closely with teachers in evaluation grouping and placement of students.
- Supervises the health and safety programs and helps evaluate the physical and mental health of students in attendance. Refers students to the nurse school adjustment counselor or outside agencies where he/she feels they can benefit from extra help.
- Consults with and advises parents regarding their children.
- Maintains a comprehensive student record for each student covering his/her academic achievement personal and social growth and health.
- Plans meetings press releases newsletter articles and publications designed to help public understanding of the Doyle ECC school program.
- Keeps parents and staff informed of any laws and rulings regarding education school attendance etc.
- Plans parents visiting days (in cooperation with the faculty) so they can obtain first hand knowledge of the school program and personnel.
- Is responsible for collection accounting and reporting of all cash receipts and cash disbursements in accordance with policy.
- Is responsible for maintaining control of and adhering to operating budgets for his/her school in accordance with policy.

The position requires the individual to sometimes work irregular or extended work hours and meet multiple demands from several people.
