General Description
North Andover Public Schools is seeking a highly skilled and collaborative Special Education Coordinator to oversee out-of-district (OOD) placements and lead programming for students aged 1822 within our transition program. This administrative leadership role is responsible for supervising and evaluating special education staff coordinating specialized programming chairing IEP meetings and ensuring compliance with all state and federal special education regulations.
The successful candidate will support high-quality individualized services for students with disabilities in both out-of-district placements and our in-district transition program which prepares young adults for independent living employment and post-secondary opportunities.
This role is ideal for a dynamic special education administrator who is passionate about inclusive education transition planning and interagency collaboration. The coordinator will play a critical role in ensuring that students receive individualized supports to achieve meaningful post-secondary outcomes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Out-of-District Responsibilities
- Chair schedule and facilitate IEP meetings for students in OOD placements including evaluations re-evaluations and annual reviews.
- Maintain consistent communication with out-of-district providers families and internal teams.
- Monitor student progress via IEPs progress reports attendance grades and MCAS data.
- Collaborate with out-of-district programs to ensure alignment with Massachusetts curriculum frameworks and legal standards.
- Search for appropriate placements manage intake coordinate placement logistics and facilitate interviews.
- Maintain and report accurate student records and data for compliance budgeting and Circuit Breaker reimbursement.
- Coordinate interagency communication (DCF DMH DMR MRC) as appropriate.
- Assist with transportation coordination graduation tracking and regulatory monitoring.
- Participate in district-level meetings and lead staff professional development as needed.
1822 Transition Program Responsibilities
- Oversee the development implementation and evaluation of the districts 1822 transition program.
- Supervise and evaluate transition teachers and teaching assistants.
- Design and support programming that focuses on independent living vocational training self-determination and community engagement.
- Collaborate with related service providers job coaches and community partners.
- Coordinate and chair IEP meetings for current and incoming students eligible for transition services.
- Lead transition assessments and individualized planning.
- Support ongoing program development to align with best practices and student needs.
- Develop schedules curriculum frameworks and functional skill instruction aligned to adult outcomes.
- Monitor compliance track student progress and prepare for post-secondary transitions.
Shared Administrative Responsibilities
- Maintain all necessary timelines documentation and data systems.
- Serve as liaison between parents staff external providers and agencies.
- Commit district resources in accordance with special education planning.
- Attend and actively participate in district special education and leadership team meetings.
- Plan and facilitate training onboarding and mentoring for staff.
- Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Special Education.
Working Conditions
- Primarily school and office environments with frequent travel across the district and to program sites.
- Regular use of computers learning technologies and communication tools.
- Physical requirements include sitting standing walking lifting up to 10 pounds and frequent interaction with diverse groups of people.
