    SUMMARY:

    The primary duty of a school social workeris to ensure that students have access to the resources necessary for academic and social development. School social workerswork with teachers and parents to make sure that students have the proper tools and guidance to effectively learn within their skill sets. They also ensure that curricula and programs address the developmental and educational needs of students. As appropriate school social workerscommunicate with families regarding student needs and align support with outside agencies.

    EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:

    • Masters degree in school counseling from an accredited university

    • Teaching credential/certificate/license for corresponding age/grade level issued by the BOEE

    TECHNICAL SKILLS KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

    • Highly developed oral and written communication skills.

    • Ability to build relationships effectively and professionally with families and students.

    • Experience developing and implementing counseling services.

    • Physical ability to handle frequent sitting stooping bending pushing pulling and moving throughout the room.

    • Proven ability to maintain a safe and supportive school environment.

    • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement age-appropriate curriculum.

    • Ability to collaborate within the school and instructional setting.

    • Demonstrated desire to be a life-long learner.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Listed below are the essential tasks required for this job.

    Job Tasks Descriptions

    Instruction: Teaching the school social work curriculum to students focused through the lens of selected student standards from the ASCA Mindsets & Behaviors for Student Success.

    Appraisal and Advisement: Assessing student abilities interests and achievement to help them make decisions about their future.

    Social Work providing professional assistance and support provided to a student or small group of students during times of transition heightened stress critical change or other situations impeding student success. School social workers do not provide therapy or long-term counseling in schools; however school social workers are prepared to recognize and respond to student mental health needs and to assist students and families seeking resources.

    • consultation share strategies supporting student achievement with parents teachers other educators and community organizations

    • collaboration work with other educators parents and the community to support student achievement

    • referrals support for students and families to school or community resources for additional assistance and information

    16. Perform other duties as assigned.
