Job Description

ECE & Out-of-School Care Team Lead

Position Type: Full-time hybrid role 40hrs/week

Location:Fernwood Neighbourhood House 1240 Gladstone Avenue Victoria BC & 1180 Queens Ave Fiddleheads location

Hours: Permanent full-time position Monday-Friday. Scheduled shifts may fall between 7:15 am - 5:30 pm.

Reports to: Early years Manager OSC Manager and ultimately the Director of Childcare

Hourly Rate:ECE Certification: $29.00 hourly ($23.00 $6 ECEWE)


*the ECEWE ($6) is separate from your base wage as it is offered directly from the provincial government. If the program is cancelled or Fernwood NH is unable to participate your total wage will be your base wage.

Position Overview

This is a hybrid full-time position with combined responsibilities in our 35-year-old childcare program and our Out-of-School Care (OSC) program for school-aged children. In the morning you will serve as an Early Childhood Educator (ECE) in our 35 program providing nurturing play-based care for children age group 3-5. In the afternoon you will transition into the Team Lead role in the Out of School Care program (OSC) For Children in Kindergarten and Grade 1 providing leadership and oversight to staff children and programming.

This position is ideal for an educator who is passionate about both early childhood and school-age care and who thrives in a leadership capacity in the latter part of the day.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan implement and assessdevelopmentally appropriate play-basedactivities.

  • Maintain a balanced daily schedule withactive/quiet indoor/outdoor and individual/groupexperiences.

  • Support childrenssocial-emotional developmentby identifying and labeling emotions.

  • Useobservationsto expand play and adapt activities to individual needs.

  • Implement theEarly Learning Frameworkin programming.

  • Lead daily programming for school-aged children (511 years)

  • Provide direct supervision and mentorship to OSC team members

  • Fosterpositive behaviour guidancethrough redirection positive reinforcement and clear expectations.

  • Setreasonable behaviour expectationsaligned with the centres philosophy and policies.

  • Address unsafe behaviours respectfully and support self-regulation.

  • Ensure childrens well-being throughactive supervisionand a safe clean environment.

  • Follow health protocols includingdiapering toileting and eating routines.

  • Administer medications when needed and maintain accuratehealth records.

  • Report allaccidents injuries and illnessesfollowing centre procedures and government regulations.

  • Release childrenonly to authorized individuals.

  • Create and maintaininclusive engaging and emergentlearning spaces.

  • Encourage andsupport self-help skills and meaningful interactionswith children.

  • Assist withcleaning sanitizing and organizingmaterials and spaces.

  • Buildpositive relationships professionalwith families children and coworkers.

  • Sharedaily updateswith families andcontribute to team discussions.

  • Followlicensing requirementsand centre policies.

  • Maintainprofessionalism and confidentialityin all interactions.

  • Attend staff meetingsmaintain punctuality carry outassigned responsibilitiesandother duties as needed.


Working Conditions

  • Ability to lift and move chairs cots mats etc. (up to 30lbs).

  • Ability to work positively in a busy and loud environment.

  • Ability to work outside in a variety of weather conditions.

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time run occasionally crouch and bend frequently.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Valid BC ECE certification is a must.

  • Experience working with children ages 311.

  • Valid First Aid with CPR-C

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a strong family centred lens.

  • Familiarity with the BC Early Learning Framework and School Age Care standards

  • Ability to problem-solve prioritize tasks and take initiative.

  • An understanding of and commitment to the importance of client confidentiality.

  • Demonstrated ability to follow instructions take initiative in completing assigned tasks and remain accountable for actions outcomes and work quality.

  • Professional adaptable and responsivewith a proactive to work and collaboration.

Other Requirements

Candidates who progress through our selection process will be required to provide the following before an employment agreement is finalized.

  • Must provide a record of immunization status for childcare licensing.

  • Must provide two professional references.

  • All employees within Fernwood NRG require a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check upon being hired.

Assets:

  • Leadership or supervisory experience in licensed childcare or OSC

  • Experience working in shared or multi-use childcare environments.

  • Additional training in conflict resolution team leadership or child development

  • Multilingual or culturally diverse lived experience
