Position Overview
This position is located at Park Headquarters at 102 Fort Mason. Work is performed in an office setting including a mix of telework and on-site. This position requires at least 3 days per week onsite either in office (Fort Mason) or visiting our employees on location at our incredible park sites (for example Alcatraz Muir Woods and Crissy Field).
The Membership Manager position is part of the Development and Membership branch that leads our organization-wide fundraising efforts to advance the mission of the Parks Conservancy in supporting the GGNRA. Reporting to the Director of Membership the Membership Manager is a key contributor to the success of the membership program that currently consists of approximately 9000 member households giving up to $1000 annually and the Parks Conservancys annual fund. This key contributor will participate in strategic initiatives supporting the organizations goal to triple the membership program within the next five years.
The Membership Manager is responsible for key member stewardship and benefit fulfillment programs including managing all aspects of the Member Event and Hiking Series and member event communications. They play a pivotal role in the execution of new member acquisition and annual fund (additional giving) campaigns and appeals supporting the Director of Membership and partnering with internal Marketing and Communications stakeholders and fundraising consultants. A significant aspect of the role is managing the execution of the membership renewal program in partnership with our consultants. Another key project will be the implementation of a digital membership card program. The Membership Manager provides occasional back-up support on operational aspects of membership including gift entry customer service and benefit fulfillment as needed in coordination with the Membership Associate.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Member Stewardship and Benefit Fulfillment
- Leads all aspects of the long-running Member Hiking and Events Series: plans special and unique outings and in-person and virtual events for members including site visits tours hikes and walks and lectures in partnership with Special Events team
- Coordinates with Development & Membership staff program staff National Park Service and Presidio Trust staff historians scientists and others to plan content location staffing and schedule events
- Produces email invitations and manages promotions and online registrations and follow-up with members
- Ensures timely tracking of event participation in Raisers Edge
- Reports on membership stewardship events and pivots strategy accordingly
Member Communications - Updates member acknowledgment letters welcome series and renewals with timely content
- Creates and codes HTML emails in Convio promoting Member Event and Hiking Series and other member communications as needed
- Represents membership at monthly editorial meetings to keeps abreast of organizational priorities and programs to integrate into the membership program
- Collaborates with Communications team and/or suggests member-related content for monthly Park e-Ventures newsletter and Gateways Magazine
- Partner with Communications team on development of quarterly members-only version of the Park E-Ventures newsletter
New Member Acquisition Campaigns and Additional Giving - Attends weekly call with fundraising consultants tracks deadlines and content needs for all aspects of our direct response fundraising program
- Tracks deadlines and assists Director of Membership in routing campaign assets to internal stakeholders utilizing project management software (Asana)
- Submits communication requests for photo assets URL creation promotion placements on web site etc.
- Maintains Sharepoint folder system to ensure proper archiving and documentation of strategy documents budgets drafts and final versions of direct mail and digital pieces
- Partners with Web team to ensure campaign promotions are live during campaign and appeal campaigns and archived appropriately; ensures membership web content is up-to-date compelling and serving membership acquisition and stewardship strategies
- Supports new membership acquisition efforts through Visitor Centers including providing managers with current member lists supplying collateral and keeping on top of premium offering
- Ensures our ability to track results through inputting source codes into Raisers Edge and creating tracking URLs
- Partners with Associate Director of Individual Giving to solidify and execute a strategy to upgrade members to Park Conservancy Leadership Circle
Renewal Program - Serves as point-of-contact for renewal program with internal stakeholders and fundraising consultants
- Partners with Communications team to update renewal letters and emails on a semi-annual basis
- Executes queries and pulls lists from Raisers Edge; builds and sends monthly renewal emails in Luminate Online (Convio) Platform
- Collaborates with Membership Associate on renewal premium inventory and fulfillment as needed
- Partners with fundraising consultant Associate Director of Development Database and Operations and Director of Membership on regular renewal reporting and strategy development
Other Support - Provides staff support for other donor events as needed
- Assists with membership team projects as needed such as tabling at community outreach and prospective member engagement events
- Responsible for adhering to guidelines and supporting the management of membership data within RE and Luminate Online.
- Supports on general membership communications and acquisition lead generation and other campaigns as needed
Knowledge Skills and Abilities - Demonstrates attention to detail accuracy and thoroughness
- Possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Database experience and knowledge of Raisers Edge and/or other CRMs or databases strongly preferred
- Technical proficiency and ability to becoming proficient in our online giving and online marketing platform (Luminate Online) and basic knowledge or ability to learn HTML a plus
- Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; works collaboratively to solve complex issues
- Has ability to work independently as well as to serve as a key member of a collaborative Development & Membership team
- Has a current valid California Drivers License
- Must be available to periodically work on evenings and during weekends
Education and/or Experience - At least 4 years of applicable experience in a nonprofit or similar setting
- Experience in membership or development at a non-profit organization and knowledge of current fundraising trends and/or direct response marketing preferred

Salary/Grade/Benefits: Salary is $75000/year (Grade 18). As part of our equitable hiring practices the Parks Conservancy will hire at the salary posted for the position and will not make an offer above this level.
