The Opportunity
We are offering a fully funded 3-year PhD position as part of the Marie Skodowska-Curie Doctoral Network MAGNIFY (Grant Agreement No.). This research will be conducted under joint supervision by Universidad Politcnica de Madrid (UPM) Spain and Hitachi Energy Poland with the PhD degree awarded by UPM.
The project focuses on developing improved and cost-effective EMC filter magnetics and accurate high-frequency (HF) simulation models. You will explore magnetic model extensions up to 100 MHz integrate HF materials into differential-mode (DM) and common-mode (CM) filters and analyze parasitic effects winding geometries and loss mechanisms.
This position is hosted at our Krakow office (Poland) within a global R&D organization.
You will be part of a dynamic international research environment with secondments to leading institutions across Europe. Apart from Krakow office assingment the rotations will include:
HIT (Switzerland) Prior-art review and EMC study of magnetic systems (Months 910)
UPM (Madrid) Advanced magnetic model extension techniques (Months 1719)
TAU (Finland) Testing filters with WBG-based power converters (Months 2628)
How You Will Make an Impact
Design and model advanced EMC filter magnetics for high-frequency applications.
Extend magnetic models to EMC frequency ranges (up to 100 MHz).
Integrate HF materials and optimize winding geometries for DM and CM filters.
Analyze parasitic effects and perform accurate loss calculations.
Collaborate with international research teams and contribute to the development of next-generation power electronics.
Participate in specialized doctoral training and international conferences.
Your Background
We are looking for passionate motivated and communicative researchers who:
Hold a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering Applied Physics Computer Science or a related field (top 5% academic performance).
Have knowledge of power electronics and magnetic components (preferred).
Are skilled in modelling simulation and programming (e.g. MATLAB Ansys).
Have experience with laboratory equipment prototyping and testing (a plus).
Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety self-motivation and continuous learning.
Are eager to work in a collaborative international environment.
English proficiency (spoken and written).
