The Opportunity
We are offering a fully funded 3-year PhD position as part of the Marie Skodowska-Curie Doctoral Network MAGNIFY (Grant Agreement No.).
This research will be conducted under joint supervision by Universidad Politcnica de Madrid (UPM) Spain and Hitachi Energy Poland with the PhD degree awarded by UPM.
This project focuses on developing innovative design methodologies that combine finite element (FE) simulations with artificial intelligence (AI) to enable electro-thermal co-design of high-frequency (HF) magnetic components. The goal is to maximize power density while ensuring effective thermal management and reliability.
You will also contribute to the development of time-domain simulation models addressing critical aspects such as partial discharge EMI/EMC and parasitic capacitance modeling.
This position is hosted at our Krakow office (Poland) within a global R&D organization.
You will be part of a dynamic international research environment with secondments to leading institutions across Europe. Apart from Krakow office assingment the rotations will include:
KUL (Belgium) Magnetic design optimization techniques (Months 2022)
UPM (Madrid) Development of time-domain simulation models (Months 3335)
How You Will Make an Impact
Develop AI-enhanced electro-thermal co-design methodologies for HF magnetic components.
Integrate FE simulations with AI to optimize power density and thermal performance.
Address reliability challenges including partial discharge and EMI/EMC.
Create accurate computationally efficient time-domain simulation models.
Collaborate with international research teams and contribute to next-generation power electronics.
Participate in specialized doctoral training and international conferences.
Your Background
We are looking for passionate motivated and communicative researchers who:
Hold a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering Applied Physics Computer Science or a related field (top 5% academic performance).
Have knowledge of power electronics and magnetic component design (preferred).
Are skilled in modelling simulation and programming (e.g. MATLAB Ansys).
Have experience with laboratory equipment prototyping and testing (a plus).
Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety self-motivation and continuous learning.
Are eager to work in a collaborative international environment.
English proficiency (spoken and written).
If you are interested in this role please apply and attach documents:
A concise CV
A motivation letter
