ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

This is a full-time exempt level position in Mountain View California.

SVCFs work environment is based on a holistic wellness approach and therefore has embraced a hybrid remote/office work environment. All SVCF team members must be based and hold residency in California and must be able to regularly attend team and staff meetings trainings and other gatherings in Mountain View when required.

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director Gift Planning and working across teams the Planned Giving Officer (Officer) is responsible for helping donors make planned or legacy gifts to SVCF. In partnership with the Director the Officer manages cultivation solicitation acknowledgement donor research and donor engagement/stewardship of current and prospective planned gift donors. The Officer alongside the Director works with donors and their financial and legal advisors to secure both outright and planned gifts in conjunction with donors needs and SVCFs initiatives and priorities. The Officer stewards a portfolio of donors who currently have documented planned gifts.

The Officer possesses technical knowledge of planned giving and the related tax regulations related to gift plans. Experience and understanding of gifts through wills trusts charitable gift annuities charitable trusts Donor Advised Funds and their succession plans is required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Prospecting and Stewardship

  • Develop and cultivate new planned gift and legacy donors. In collaboration steward existing relationships including SVCF Legacy Society members and the living endowment fund donors portfolio.
  • Partner with SVCFs Donor Engagement Team to identify and respond to planned giving opportunities; formalize and steward DAF succession plans including the creation updating and administration of pertinent documents.
  • Provide technical expertise on charitable giving strategies and vehicles. Maintain knowledge of new trends in planned giving; be aware of new or pending tax legislation.
  • Partner with prospective donors and their legal and financial advisors to design and execute planned giving instruments and/or secure gifts of non-cash assets.
  • Implement an active engagement strategy and value proposition convene Legacy Society members and strategically communicate to current members and prospects.
  • Field inbound planned giving inquiries including inquiries from existing donors who wish to incorporate their estates into philanthropic planning. Add new planned giving prospects and donors to portfolio for relationship management.

Program Administration and Operations

  • Assist with other planned giving administration responsibilities including estate settlement and new fund setup activities with General Counsel; and the preparation review and submission of quarterly and annual CGA filings to the California Department of Insurance.
  • Maintain detailed records of donor interactions and planned giving activities in donor CRM.
  • Create and generate planned giving proposals for new life income giftscharitable gift annuities and charitable remainder trustsin response to donor inquiries. Respond to questions; escalate to the Director Gift Planning as needed.
  • Track all planned gift activities including cultivation solicitation new gifts and planned giving stewardship. Ensure CRM is updated with relevant donor information. Assist with creation and generation of reports to track Planned Giving activities.
  • Create update and administer Legacy Fund Agreement and Letters of Intent created for gifts by bequest.
  • Coordinate the administration aspects of life-income gift activities including new gift setup account management and termination of planned gifts.
  • Provide assistance and support for the Directors work activities related to both outright and planned gifts of real estate including liaising with General Counsel on gift transactions.
  • Assist in managing SVCFs Real Estate Trust supporting organization and gifts held therein.
  • Apply gift acceptance policy criteria for new planned gifts and permissible vehicle fund assets.
  • Serve as the point of contact/liaison with external management vendor to maintain actuarial tables to determine progress of legacy giving pipeline.
  • Assist with planned giving services for nonprofit organizations that are current life income gift partners with a focus on organizations that partner with SVCF on charitable gift annuities.

Marketing Communications and Events

  • Work with the marketing and communications team on strategies to increase Legacy Society membership raise awareness of planned giving opportunities and increase visibility of SVCFs expertise in the planned giving arena.
  • Provide administrative support to SVCF-sponsored conferences convening meetings and events that support the aims of the planned giving program.
  • Attend and participate at industry conferences and events to increase visibility of SVCF.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Bachelors degree.
  • Professional and personal alignment with Silicon Valley Community Foundations mission and values.
  • 5 years demonstrated experience in customer service and/or fundraising including at least 2 years planned giving experience with community-based organizations and/or foundations or equivalent relevant experience within a legal or financial firm.
  • Understanding of estates trusts and planned giving vehicles such as charitable remainder trusts and charitable gift annuities.
  • Understanding of basic real estate management is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Unwavering commitment to customer service and experience providing prompt professional responses to all inquiries.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and retaining donor or client relationships resulting in significant support for an organization.
  • Demonstrated experience in gift transactions including planned gifts and real property preferred.
  • Familiarity with and/or interest in tax matters and other legal requirements related to fundraising. Demonstrated effort to maintain and grow knowledge in these areas.
  • Experience using Salesforce preferred.
  • Exceptional listening verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent partnership and project management skills with ability to work with diverse groups and on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Flexibility and comfort with ambiguity.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

SVCF is committed to offering competitive salaries and comprehensive benefits. The target hiring range for this position is $125000 to $136000 per year based on experience credentials and internal salary equity.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger handle or feel objects tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
