Resident Medical Officer

Full-time (39 hours per week) Permanent

Candidate Criteria:

Qualifications

MB BCh BAO or equivalent recognised by the Irish Medical Council

Be registered with the Irish Medical Council

Be BLS or ACLS certified.

Experience

  • 3 years relevant experience in within an adult acute hospital setting (Essential)
  • Experience of liaising with senior level nursing. (Desirable)
  • Evidence of strong clinical leadership resulting in high clinical standards. (Desirable)
  • Evidence of leading change & reform. (Desirable)

The Purpose of This Role:

The post will include post-operative care of patient with emphasis on diagnosis and treatment of medical illness associated with surgery. The post does not have a surgical component and would suit someone with medical registrar experience. The Resident Medical Officer (RMO) plays a key role in building and maintaining relationships between the Consultants Nursing Staff Director of Nursing Hospital Management and the Multidisciplinary Team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Complete an admission examination on each patient when appropriate and document clinical findings.
  • Attend ward rounds with Consultant staff as required and be available to discuss patient treatment plans.
  • Inform admitting Consultants of changes in the medical condition of patients and of relevant action taken.
  • Follow the instructions of Consultants for their specific regime for each individual patient.
  • Perform clinical procedures as requested by Consultants medical staff and nursing staff these may include but are not limited to phlebotomy and the service of administering of intravenous drugs to patients.
  • To ensure a high standard of care is maintained at all times.
  • Ensure the delivery of competent compassionate and efficient care by monitoring and evaluating patient care processes and patient outcomes.
  • To practice within and support the Bon Secours Mission and Values policies procedures guidelines and new initiatives as directed/introduced by the hospital.
