Behavioral Interventionist

Job Details

Job Location:Western Heights High School

Position Type: Full Time

Education Level: Masters Degree in Mental Health (preferred) and hold a current teaching certification with a minimum of three years teaching experience is preferred.

Credentials:Oklahoma Department of Education State Licensure or Certification in Licensed Mental Health Professional may include: LCSW LMFT LPC LADC-MHpreferred

Training or Experience Required: Experience working with children in mental health counseling or related field. Experience in an elementary education setting is preferred.

Job Goal (Purpose of Position):Performs professional level duties under minimal supervision to implementation of multi-tiered school-wide prevention and intervention program. Individual should possess strong leadership skills a thorough knowledge of student counseling and effective interaction working with at-risk students.

Contact with Others:Has regular contact with parents students teachers support and administrative staff. Contact requires tact diplomacy and independent judgment such as problem solving interpreting policies and procedures based on experience and providing counseling techniques as appropriate.

Essential Job Functions

  • Must be knowledgeable of and able to comply with FERPA and special education laws including confidentiality.
  • Facilitate sustainability and expansion of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) practices school-wide with emphasis on Tier II and III implementation.
  • Assists administration in identifying referring and implementing intervention programs for students with behavioral needs to support academic progress.
  • Provide group or individual support for students identified as experiencing crisis trauma and/or mental health needs.
  • Oversee school-wide behavioral data collection management and analysis.
  • Train and provide ongoing support to staff with school-wide Tier I II and III behavior support.
  • Track and analyze student discipline referrals suspensions team implementation and program surveys.
  • Ability to conduct multiple assessments.
  • Assist with Response to Intervention (RTI) practices for students and teachers to promote academic achievement.
  • Supervises students throughout the building and grounds throughout the work day.
  • Cares for and effectively assists students. Models friendships acceptance and recognition.
  • Encourages effective learning with proper group and teaching techniques. Involves learners and encourages individual response. Establishes activities that require independent student participation.
  • Ensures students are acquiring skills and knowledge to apply principles theories and other learning skills to support academic and behavioral needs.
  • Contributes to the effectiveness/quality of school programs including extracurricular programs. Actively supports and looks for ways to improve the quality of education including cooperating with other school personnel. Serves on committees with a constructive attitude. Continues to be involved in personal growth and development. Cares for and effectively assists students with special concerns. Interacts constructively with parents. Attends school and district meetings as required by administration.
  • Conduct parent training aligned to school-wide behavior program and provide individual parental support for students being identified with behavioral needs. Activities may include home visits to school families.
  • Performs other duties as assigned administration.

Supervision Exercised: Employee is responsible for supervision of students in the classroom and throughout the school building during the workday. Employee is responsible for maintaining order and disciplining students in accordance with the district policy. Employees does not supervise other employees except for student teachers or entry-year teaches teachers assigned to the employee.

Physical/Mental Requirements and Working Conditions

In an eight-hour workday the employee must sit stand or walk for varying lengths in order to deliver instruction and properly supervise students throughout the school building as required. Employees job requires occasional reaching above the shoulder to write on a chalkboard. Job requires occasional bending/stooping or squatting/crouching to interact with students at their desks on the floor or at eye level. Job requires occasional carrying/lifting up to ten pounds to transport instructional materials to the classroom from other parts of the building.
