Position Summary
The Rice Management Company (RMC) stewards the approximately $8 billion endowment on behalf of Rice University ranking in the top 20 endowments of private research universities (by market value) in the US. The endowment is critical to the universitys ability to achieve its goals and the annual distribution funds nearly half of the universitys annual operating budget. TheRMCis responsible for all endowment matters of the university including asset allocation the selection and termination of investment managers performance monitoring and reporting to the Rice Management Company Board of Directors. The goal of theRMCis to provide a stable source of funding for current university operations and to preserve & grow the purchasing power of the endowment to benefit future generations of students. The endowment primarily utilizes outside investment managers and invests globally across all asset classes.
The investment analyst is actively involved in all aspects of investment & manager research for the Rice endowment. Reporting to the investment manager associates routinely interact with senior and executive leadership. This generalist role involves broad exposure across asset classes including public equities private equity venture capital hedge funds and real assets.
The investment analyst position is a full-time pre-MBArole. Analysts must have strong work ethic attention to detail quantitative and analytic skills the ability to work in teams self-motivation good written and communication skills experience with computers attention to detail and an interest in investing.
The ideal candidate has 1-2 years of related experience as well as a self-driven work ethic deep attention to detail quantitative and analytical skills outstanding communication abilities and a strong interest in both investing & supporting the work of a university endowment.
This is a two-year term appointment with the possibility of an additional third-year extension contingent on business need and individual performance.
Workplace Requirements
This position is exclusively on-site necessitating that all duties be performed in person. PerRice policy 440 work arrangements may be subject to change.
Hiring Range
This is a full-time benefits-eligible position and the salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. *Exempt (salaried) positions underFLSA are not eligible for overtime.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelors Degree
- One or more (1) years of related experience as an analyst at a consulting firm investment bank or investment firm
Skills:
- Proficiency in MS Excel Word and PowerPoint
- Fundamental understanding of investment principles and financial metrics
- Strong technical/quantitative skills with demonstrated ability to execute complex financial analysis
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; the ability to communicate effectively with senior management and investment professionals
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and on a collaborative basis as part of a team
- Accuracy attention to detail ability to multitask and organizational skills
- Self-motivated with a passion for learning about investments & supporting the work of a university endowment
Essential Functions:
- Assists in the monitoring of existing managers of the public and private investments portfolios
- Gathers data and prepares reports for the routine review of asset class level performance & exposures
- Provides support to senior investment team members and assists in the screening and due diligence process for new managers
- Assists with the development of and maintenance of asset class models and databases
- Participates in investment research projects from asset allocation to security level review
- Assists in the preparation of materials for quarterly board meetings
- Provides applicable administrative support to the investment team which includes scanning filing meeting preparation copying documents creating PowerPoint presentations and other tasks
- Performs other duties as assigned
