How to Apply: Overview

The Director of Specialized Instructionplans develops implements and evaluates programs for diverse learners acrossour network of 15 Acero schools. The Director provides training to specialeducation staff general education staff administrators; monitors programcompliance; provides curricular resources to teachers and specialists; providesconsultation and support to administrators and staff in the area for diverselearners and related services; and other related functions as directed.

Core Responsibilities

  • Coordinate curricular resources and supports inthe areas of special education psychological health and mental healthservices
  • Lead the evaluation of Special Educationprograms and/or projects for the purpose of carrying out and achieving AceroSpecialized Instruction goals and objectives within area of responsibility
  • Supervise network staff in the area ofSpecialized Instruction and support Principals in the supervision ofschool-level Specialized Instruction Staff
  • Prepare documentation for the purpose of ensuringcompliance with Special Education requirements providing written supportand/or conveying information to state and local regulatory agencies
  • Present information on programs servicesregulations etc. for the purpose of serving as a resource to network andschool personnel
  • Observe consult with and assist teachingstaff and specialists in the development and implementation of individualizededucation programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities
  • Provide training and consultation toadministration teachers support staff and parents in the areas of specialeducation and multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) to improve instructionalcapacity and student outcomes
  • Evaluate and analyze complex problemsissues and concerns and recommend appropriate alternative solutions and makeeffective and timely decisions
  • Plan organize and conduct comprehensiveprofessional development programs for teachers administrators apprenticesspecialists and parents
  • Work cooperatively with parents community colleaguesand agencies
  • Plan organize and coordinate site andnetwork-wide special education programs and services
  • Establish and maintain cooperativeorganizational public and educational community relationships
  • Demonstrate ethical behavior

  • Understanding of curriculum and instructiondesign and delivery systems for students receiving special education services

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelors Degree (required) Masters Degree in a related field(preferred)
  • Minimum of 3 years teaching experience inSpecial Education or closely related field (required)
  • Experience in site administration or districtadministration with increasing levels of responsibility (required)
  • Communicate effectively in oral and writtenform
  • Effectively utilize computer technology inday-to-day work
  • Valid Special Education license issued by theIllinois State Board of Education
  • Must hold permanent residency in the UnitedStates (required)


Physical Demands

Nature of workrequires an ability to operate standard business ability to communicate and exchange informationcollect compile and prepare work documents set-up and maintain demands require the ability to stand bend reachhigh and low stoop and walk around the classroom 60% of addition walking up and down stairs several times be able to lift 15 to 20 pounds for short periods of timeand push and pull 15 to 20 lbs.

WorkingConditions

Majority ofwork is performed in a general office requiresavailability for extended hours plus non-traditional hours required to performjob requires participation and attendance at organization-sponsoredevents and meetings.
