About the Role

  • To create a welcoming space build relationships and provide personal care to clients
  • Create a welcoming space and build relationships with clients
  • Provide personal care such as diabetes wound and continence monitoring medication and activities of daily living (ADLs) assistance
  • Deliver simple meals and nutritional support
  • Complete housekeeping and cleaning tasks and maintain infection control standards
  • Perform administrative tasks such as answering the phone emails and liaising with internal and external networks
  • Complete documentation and clinical handover each shift
  • Ensure relevant training requirements are kept up to date
  • Attend and contribute to regular staff meetings



Classification for this position is IN39 (Health Care Worker Grade 3)($65754.00 per annum pro rata).

Your Contribution

  • Hold a nationally accredited certificate at Australian Quality Framework Level 4 or be in the process of obtaining this certificate
  • Minimum of 2 years experience as a Health Care Worker
  • Commitment to the mission and philosophy of The Sister Francesca Healy Cottage and SVHM
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse client group and manage difficult behaviour
  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to work sleepover shifts (1600-0720)
  • Current First Aid Certificate or ability to obtain

About the Health Care for Homeless Department

This position is part of the Health Care for homeless Program (HfH). The program has a base of services within St Vincents that currently support clients that are experiencing or at risk of homelessness. This service aims to build on integrating and better coordinating existing services within St Vincents hospital and the development of new services to meet the need of the target client group.

The Sister Francesca Healy Cottage sits within the Health Independence Program (HIP). The intent of HIP is to deliver improved outcomes for clients and to support hospital demand management and flow through delivering integrated and coordinated care to clients across the hospital and community interface reducing duplication and fragmentation of services and ensuring client centred care planning. SVHM HIP consists of integrated hub sites across several locations including in Fitzroy Kew North Richmond and Northcote.

The Cottage is a five-bed health facility in a homely terrace house and targets clients with complex needs such as homelessness substance use mental health issues disability and family violence. The multidisciplinary team aims to provide physical social and emotional support within an environment of safe practice respect and dignity.
